Description Tic disorder and tourettes syndrome awarness.

"Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (Tourette Syndrome or TS) is a neurological disorder which becomes evident in early childhood or adolescence before the age of 18 years. Tourette syndrome is defined by multiple motor and vocal tics lasting for more than one year. The first symptoms usually are involuntary movements (tics) of the face, arms, limbs or trunk. These tics are frequent, repetitive and rapid. The most common first symptom is a facial tic (eye blink, nose twitch, grimace), and is replaced or added to by other tics of the neck, trunk, and limbs.

These involuntary (outside the patient's control) tics may also be complicated, involving the entire body, such as kicking and stamping. Many persons report what are described as premonitory urges -- the urge to perform a motor activity. Other symptoms such as touching, repetitive thoughts and movements and compulsions can occur.

There are also verbal tics. These verbal tics (vocalizations) usually occur with the movements. These vocalizations include grunting, throat clearing, shouting and barking. The verbal tics may also be expressed as coprolalia (the involuntary use of obscene words or socially inappropriate words and phrases) or copropraxia (obscene gestures). Despite widespread publicity, coprolalia/copropraxia is uncommon with tic disorders.

Neither echolalia (echo speech) or coprolalia/copropraxia is necessary for the diagnosis of Tourette syndrome. However, for a confirmed diagnosis of TS both involuntary movements and vocalizations must be present. Echo phenomena are also reported, although less frequently. These may include repeating word of others (echolalia), repeating ones own words (palilalia), and repeating movements of others.

Although the symptoms of TS vary from person to person and range from very mild to severe, the majority of cases fall into the mild category. Co-occurring conditions can include ADHD/ADD, impulsivity, and obsessive compulsive behavior. There is usually a family history of tics, Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, OCD. Tourette Syndrome and other tic disorders occur in all ethnic groups. Males are affected 3 to 4 times more often than females."

I would use my own words, but I actually can't say it better than this. And yes, you can cause someone to tic. This is why the little pun. If you are in some way stressing the person out you can set their tics off.

Anyways, this stamp isn't up for debate at all. If you come in here saying this isn't a real condition I won't delete it, but I won't respond. That is about as idiotic as people say adhd isn't real. It is real and its recognized as a real medical problem. Don't like that fact? Get the fudge out of here.

With that said you can use one and off site. I would prefer that you use the picture's url off this site to use off site. Please don't take credit for the stamp.

All credit goes to me. I pixeled the ribbons and stamp. The font is from the fonts off my computer.

I heard that TS is becoming popular. I mean, like depression or something sad. I have TS and it’s not at all cool! This is terrible! I sometimes repeat my words or movements. Because of this, I broke the drive of my laptop...

Seize epilepsy? Since its a neurological disorder marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain (or commonly known as seizures). But you can come up with others if you want to

I may or may not have Tourette's. Every so often I start twitching uncontrollably and what do people do? They laugh or ask if I'm some type of freak.

I get better results from people in my area, but before the McDonalds was closed in walmart the employees were making fun of me in there. So yeah. I'm glad that was replaced with a sub shop.

Oh thank goodness. Sadly it's the ladies at work (there's some guys, but mainly women) that give me the most grief. I'm "unladylike" just because I twitch uncontrollably. I'd love to hear them say that about my seizures! Dx

Cr1kk3t In reply to GingaFreak11 [2013-10-20 19:05:35 +0000 UTC]

Unlady like? Wow. I'd just ignore that. They want to call you unlady like good. It's not the dark ages. Women don't have to be "lady like." To gods how I hate that that term. Act like a lady bleh. Bull crap.

I try to, but I can't stand those snobs. They're so "perfect", but nope, *sarcasm* I totally chose to have tics and a bunch of mental illnesses. It's a choice you know? Because a person totally wants to be twitching around!

Oh I hate that! I think I have Tourette's (I randomly twitch violently every so often) and people constantly tell me to quit it.
I'm sure if we both could, we would. Not enough Tourette's awareness!
