Great job on catching that moon glow lighting. It comes across particularly well on the roof tiles. The fog effects and the angle of the render help push that ominous horror house vibe even more. Nice work!

Well, I have never use Maya (I'm going to use it in a few month), so I can't really tell you that. But what I heard is that Maya is better for the animation. The students of the last year in my school use it to study animation. So I guess it's better ^^.
Personally, I use 3Dsmax to create environment, vehicles, architecture and sometimes the basemesh for a character. I work on Zbrush too ^^.
