i'm really curious how you managed the aged look/ patina on the copper.

Use glue blue. It is sold at most sporting goods stores. You can dip the whole item in the liquid for a few seconds or brush it on with a Q-tip. Rinse the piece well, then polish the parts you want more copper looking. DON'T LET SIT IT LIQUID FOR LONG!!!!! Piece will turn a powdery black.
It's good to clean the piece of you hand oils before patina process. You can clean it using lemon juice. Make sure you rinse that off before using the gun blue.
