Description I grew up with Sci-Fi and Fantasy shows in my home, but Doctor Who was one of the few I never got to watch and I am now rectifying this problem. Only watched the reboot so far and I love it!

Here we see the Tenth Doctor made into a cute Doctor Doll. ^_^ His hair was a bit of a pain to style (and I wish I could make it better than it is) but that is par for the course with complex hairstyles. I did give him cute little sideburns though! To make his suit and jacket combo work, I attached felt under added dk. brown suit lapels and then used basic satin stitch techniques to give it those lovely blue pinstripes. His sonic screwdriver was made by hand to complete the look cause really, with as much as he uses it, even chibi-10 needs one.

Materials: Yarn, thread, Buttons, Felt, Sculpy, Paint, Wax
Time: 5-7 hours

When asked, the 10th Doctor had this to say about his doll: "Oh brilliant! A miniature me! Did you see Rose? Ha, I'm so gorgeous in this body that even in doll form I look good."

See the 10th Doctor in his other main outfit here: Ten w/Blue Suit; aka TenII

Check ready made availability of this doll at my etsy shop .

Hmm...I'm afraid I don't see the resemblance beyond the same hair color. I've actually made Sora....which a quick search has revealed that I've yet to post him >.<

In the meantime I'll have to blame the angle of the photo here I think. I've made 10 many, many times since this first one and his hair looks nothing like Sora's.

I had one in my shop up until this weekend when I took my stock of dolls to Magfest where Ten did sell. How soon is your friends birthday? I have several commissions do to over the next few weeks but I may be able to squeeze in making a Ten doll depending on how far away the birthday is.

Her birthday is on the nineteenth. But I can only buy the doll on like Friday or something around there, because that's when I'll have money for it.

I'm trying soooooo hard to make these! I really want to make one! Please tell me how! I know how to read patterns ...I'm pretty good at crocheting....

I actually don't have any patterns written down for my dolls I'm afraid. Every time I make one the pattern for everything but the head and body gets adjusted to fit the form. So I could tell you in general how my dolls are made over a note if you like, but I don't have a typed up/written pattern that I can share. Sorry

Please tell me how they are made in general I tried making Chris Eccleston but he ended up too tall! would you possibly be able to send me the pattern for your tardis??

And you're not supposed to be so obvious about my stalking you... I only stalk those truly worried

Craftigurumi In reply to LilliumCoronarium [2012-01-10 05:40:02 +0000 UTC]

Lol. I like when people stalk me It makes me feel awesome enough to be stalked.

My Tardis pattern is very complicated and involves more sewing then it does crocheting really. I also have had a chance to have an outside person test it so I have no idea if any one besides myself even understands my instructions lol.

Like I send before, just hit me up with a note here for any questions you have about how i make my dolls and I'll answer them as best as I can. Or, if you like, I'm making a how to guide for amigurumi dolls on the sprite stitch forum so you are more than welcome to just wait and check that out instead.

How did you do his hair?! I must know!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Craftigurumi In reply to diamondcatlenny [2011-12-04 16:54:03 +0000 UTC]

All of my doll hair is made with the same method. I crochet a weft (long strip) of the hair and then sew it on to the head in whatever predetermined shape I need for the doll. Ten has a complex hair style so he needed a very long piece of hair...about 12" I think. Anyway, after I sew it on to the head, I use my grandmother's and mother's hair styling tips to trim back and style the hair until it makes me happy...or I at least deem it acceptable.

I wish I could show it to David Tennant (much less the Doctor ), my sister keeps telling me I should mail him one, but no, that was a just a silly little blurb I added to be cute. Sorry

Glad you like him though! I do accept commissions on all my items so if you ever do want one just send me a note.

Nah, mailing wouldn't be safe enough. Who knows if he really receives it? I'd look for events he'll attend and show it to him in person ^w^

Ow, that's definitely something to consider.
I'll send you a note if I'm interested.

I love this. Dude how did you do it?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Craftigurumi In reply to Zipher185 [2011-05-26 03:11:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks ^_^ Simple answer? Lots of crocheting and sewing and planning. Long answer? For the complicated parts: I use trickery to make it seem like he's got 3 layers of fabric, his tie is make from a loop with a knot that's twisted together, and his hair is sewn onto his head and then carefully styled and cut to the best of my ability.

Zipher185 In reply to Craftigurumi [2011-05-26 03:40:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow. I love your work and amazing stuff. Did you learn this from someone or did you just sit back and think of a way to do it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Craftigurumi In reply to Zipher185 [2011-05-26 15:17:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks ^_^

I've taught myself everything as far as crocheting skills and techniques go, but I got the idea to start doing these dolls when I got bored with making traditional things like blankets, clothes, dish towels, etc. Found a book at Borders on making basic amigurumi shapes so I could figure out how to deconstruct the stuff I wanted to make as well as the techniques for making the patterns up myself.

After that it was just a matter of making them my own and if there was one thing I seemed to me able to do well it was work on things in miniature. All of these Dolls I make only stand about 4", maybe 5", tall.

Zipher185 In reply to Craftigurumi [2011-05-26 15:29:36 +0000 UTC]

That's great. I started in a clothing class that was crazy. The only good thing about it was I learned how to use a sewing machine even though it wasn't that hard and then asked my father how to do other stuff because his mother wouldn't let any of them leave until they knew at least a little bit of sewing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Craftigurumi In reply to Zipher185 [2011-05-26 15:51:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah sewing machines are a bit to complex for me so I can sympathize with how crazy that would've been. I'm much more likely to hand sew something even though it'll take like 10 times longer, lol . My mother tried to teach me how to crochet when I was about 8 or 9 but I just didn't understand it then and randomly tried again when I was 18. Obviously I figured things out much easier then

Do you still sew/make clothes? My sister is a fashion major and she often tells me how much of a nightmare it can be.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zipher185 In reply to Craftigurumi [2011-05-26 16:01:14 +0000 UTC]

I sew but not make clothes. I make like bags and stuff like that. I've been wanting to make a Doctor Who one but I haven't thought of the style just yet. Its funny because I like to design clothes just not make them. My favorite thing I made was the Harry Potter one I made for a friend during Christmas.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Craftigurumi In reply to Zipher185 [2011-05-27 04:49:58 +0000 UTC]

Ah I see. Ooo, a Harry Potter bag though? I do wonder what that would look like...My only suggestion for Doctor Who would be to do the Tardis doors, but I know that's been done before. I'll be painting some cloth ones I picked up last fall with geek inspired designs so I know how hard it can be to come up with something that represents what you want immediately, but is also unique. >.<

Good luck on your project!

Lol how're you just now finding these dolls? They've been up for over a month I think. Course I didn't know you had an account so that's us even I suppose.

Yeah I'm probably gonna make one of Ten for myself. He's really my favorite of the twenty of so I've made in the past 2 months. Well, him and the Tardis but I'd probably make one without the sound card for myself if I felt like owning one.

Maybe you'll get lucky and get Ten for your birthday ^_~
