Description A new and improved maile bra!
5/16" 16 ga. BA, 4-in-1 with a bit of HP 3-in-1 trim at the bottom, there. I say this is new and improved because it fits awesomely and looks better than my others. It's based on the standard M pattern, with the outside tops of the "M" being a bit higher than the inside peak, and with three decreases on the bottom - One in the middle, and one under each cup.
This one is sized to fit me, but our mannequins are a little small, so I had to put one of my bras on her to make it fit. With luck I can get some shaped bras of different sizes so I can have a few of these on-hand for the Ren Fest!
If ~SR388 had been home to help with pics, I would be in there modeling it for you guys.

Nice one. I have promised to do one of these to a known girl of mine recently (I must be out of my mind). But this will definitely help thanks for sharing

Glad I can help!

My husband is the one who usually makes the bikini tops. I'm usually too busy making jewelry or miniature doll maille to have time to work on the larger pieces. All the ones he's worked on are on his DA page - [link] Maybe you can get some ideas from those as well.

Good luck on your bikini top! And I love your metal works. My dream is to learn how to be a blacksmith so I can make full suits of armor.

It's just E 4-in-1 with HP 3-in-1 trim. ^_^ Not hard at all!
I plan on seeing if I can't bang one of these out to sell at the Fairie Fest - I'll post it unassembled so you guys can see how I put it together.

It's mostly just patience - Not a whole ton of talent, more of plain pigheaded-ness.

Ya, but the talent is to make it look good, and you are good at that.!

Not really - You just need the patience, and you'll build up some nice calluses over time.
I actually learned all the chainmaile stuff I know from the internet and personal experimentation! I can toss some links at you if you'd like. ^_^

Supplier - The Ring Lord! We them. - [link]
A good base size to start with is 16 gauge 3/8" The rings are large enough you can learn without any difficulty, but thick enough they'll still make a nice solid piece. I recommend starting with aluminum because it's easier to bend, and then work your way up to stainless steel. Unless you're a masochist, then feel free to dive right into stainless! ^_^
Instruction Sites
M.A.I.L. - Articles, a forum, all that nice on-line community stuff! ^_^ - [link]
Derakon - This guy writes the best instructions - [link]
Phong's Site - [link] - Phong has awesome tutorials, as well!

The Ring Lord also has inspiration galleries and message boards and the like as well, so peek around there. I especially like the galleries. Keeps me pumped when my hands are complaining or when I know I need to work but don't feel like it. 5 mintes looking at all the shiny pretties, and I'm ready to go again!

It IS really comfortable - I'm thinking of altering my 6-in-1 top to reflect this pattern. It would be a few hours of annoying fiddly work, but I think it would be worth it.

I think it would be worth it in the end, if it makes it more comfy then it'll pay off in the long run.

That's what I'm thinking. Once the maile skirt is done, eh?

Of course! I'm looking forward to seeing the skirt. I need to make a new one...

It will probably be in ~SR388 's space. He's doing most of the work on it - I'm mostly just making units and adding them to the one end of the chain while he weaves the other end into the skirt!

immortaldesigns In reply to crazed-fangirl [2007-05-23 23:37:41 +0000 UTC]

Ah yea, you two work like me and my partner do, only I do all the weaving and he makes the units and rings.. it really speeds the job up!

crazed-fangirl In reply to immortaldesigns [2007-05-24 01:08:19 +0000 UTC]

Isn't it great? He ususally works on the larger items (although I'm getting into bras as you can see) and I do the smaller stuffs. The unit-making is something nice and meditative to do while I think of designs or even in the car.

immortaldesigns In reply to crazed-fangirl [2007-05-24 01:15:00 +0000 UTC]

It's really great! I started out doing all the bigger stuff but as I got him more into making stuff he sort of took over(mostly armour) and I got more time to worry about jewellery and harder weaves.

crazed-fangirl In reply to immortaldesigns [2007-05-24 03:31:25 +0000 UTC]

Exactly - It's great when the guys want to help out. Makes me feel kinda bad for the other ladies who mostly knit and stuff. Their guys can't help out!
I say "mostly" because I knit and crochet and all that stuff, too. He doesn't complain because he gets fitted winter gear, slipper - All that good stuff. ^_^

immortaldesigns In reply to crazed-fangirl [2007-05-24 20:25:13 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree! I knit, cross stich and maye jewellery and he can't really help there but he always gives in put so he's not totally left out!
