Description Journal entry from Michael Douglas, crewman aboard the Global Petrol supertanker Atlas en route to the Port of Mumbai. Port of Departure: Valdez, Alaska USA. January 6th, 2256.

We saw them today. At around noon off the port side bow. Two great shapes rising and falling through the waves. Great streams of water jetting out from their “heads” as they breached the surface and sank below again. The Atlas's hull cameras confirmed that they were indeed the Marut class drones we were promised as our escort.

Fearsome looking things. Images of Moby Dick are all I can think about when I see them. Even Captain Ahab wouldn't dare cross one of these. Though I am relieved that they'll be our escort across the Pacific, part of me still has a hard time accepting the fact that they are fully armed and fully autonomous. Aside from their orders and parameters they act on their own accord!

It's also a wonder that these two that are escorting us are part of the Indian Navy. What happened to American might?

The world is pretty backwards right now. America is a third rate country, the global energy crisis is only getting worse, pirates steal oil on the open water with impunity, and I'm currently being escorted by two artificial attack whales from India! Maybe I should hop off on one those tiny islands we'll be passing. Build myself a shack and let the world pass me by. Sounds kinda nice.

--------------------------------

Marut class maritime assault drone.

The largest drones constructed, Marut class drones represent the pinnacle of organic drone design. Modeled after the largest toothed predators on the planet, the Sperm Whale, they act as formidable guardians of the sea. The body is composed of thousands of kilometers of artificial muscle fibers layered on top of a sturdy skeletal structure. The onboard AI supercomputer is housed deep in the midsection of the body, while power supplies are spread throughout. A small missile array is located behind the upper headpiece. Torpedo tubes and a large naval ram are located on the front of the head.

At first I thought it said "Macrophalus" and that the shading on the head ridges was supposed to be
a crevice...yeah, I've absorbed too much Essence of 4Chan, haven't I?

This is amazing! This is definitely a machine you wouldn't want to tangle with! How big are these things? Are they average Sperm Whale size or are they larger?

I'll admit that my first thought on looking at this was T.J. Bass's novel "The Godwhale".

I just discovered your art this morning and am going through painting after painting having my imagination utterly captured, especially by the Big Five series.

It wasn't a much of surprising when IndiNav have some post-British technological aid for military, building such piece of robotics is feasible even for American perspectives. The problem is who is gonna produce them.

Those sorts of awe-but-fear-inspiring names.
