Description
Should I be happy, or sad?
Should I be honest, or tell a lie?
It's so hard to know
what emotions I should feel.
Others obtain what I've been striving to get for ages,
in what seems to be the blink of an eye;
the snap of a finger.
The jealousy hits me like a hurricane;
like a tsunami.
It's not like I told myself to feel this way.
I just can't help it.

But then I achieve something.
I jump up and down; shout for joy.
Yet as I'm looking around,
I see the girl in the corner.
She's avoiding my eyes;
trying to become invisible.
And that's when I wonder,
if maybe,
she's the who feels that unbearable feeling;
that ugly monster,
rising in her chest.
While I bask in my happiness.

That's when my joy disappears;
when I start to wish.
Wish that she could share my glee.

As time goes on,
many changes occur.
The leaves change colour and fall;
the world becomes a damp, cold place.
But then, I see a cherry blossom.
It seems to pop out of nowhere,
its bright petals opening,
just like the sun rises.
After its brave appearance,
more follow its lead.
That's when it hits me.

Later on, I go up to that girl.
The one who was sitting in that corner,
all alone.
I apologize to her,
and extend my hand,
the corners of my lips turned upwards in a smile.
She looks at me in confusion,
not understanding my apology.
"Nevermind," I say.
Then I offer to be her friend.
With shock, she slowly accepts my hand,
as she starts to grin.

I take her to my group of friends;
I introduce her.
My friends surround her,
welcoming her with arms that are filled with warmth.
And for the first time,
I see her genuinely happy.

Over time, I become her best friend,
and she becomes mine.
I help her with her studies;
she does the same.
We both get the jobs we've always wanted to have.
She eventually forgets about my seemingly random apology,
but I never forget the guilt.
The guilt of not reaching out to her sooner.

Because really,
sometimes all you need,
is for one person,
to reach out.
For one person,
to lead you on the right path.
Even if you don't know how to feel,
it's alright.
Because you know that you have that one friend,
who can help you get through anything.
