Description Sooooo...

For some reason, I started thinking about the game, Candyland and decided to research about it. I ended up reading about all the different versions and designs of the game and the characters(One I decide to research something, I can't stop). Just for fun, I decided to draw the character Mr. Mint, the classic 80's/90's version. According to sources, he is a peppermint lumberjack who lives in and cares for the Royal Peppermint Forest(the classic version of him anyway). Seemed pretty legit. Plus, the whole candy cane theme seemed most appropriate with the Christmas season upon us.

And I admit, he was my favorite out of the bunch.(You can't beat a peppermint lumberjack with candy cane-striped limbs who resembles a clown XD).

I never owned Candyland when I was little, but I remember watching other kids play it in after school daycare. It was the 80's/90's version. I remembered the characters once I read up on them again and even recalled some of the story that use to be on the box inset.

I drew this in pencil then inked it and colored it entirely with Copic Markers and added a bit of white gel pen. Yes, this is a character from a board game mostly for pre-schoolers, but what the heck, I went for it anyway, and I'm glad I did because it was a lot of fun to draw and I just plain enjoyed making the whole thing. It just felt so good to finally do a big colored pic and with my Copics which I haven't used for a long while. I'm very proud with how this came out and I just love how all the colors came out. I'm especially impressed with the clouds. I just wish my scanner was a bit bigger to fit everything in, but it doesn't really alter the pic. It took me pretty much the whole month, mostly because I would have to hold off because of work, tiredness, and other life stuff. At least I got it done in time for the holidays.

I actually have another Mr. Mint pic that I had drawn and scanned to color on the computer and was different from this one. It was already inked and I had started to color it, but then I decided to just go ahead and color this one, since it would be easier to finish as opposed to having to be at my computer the whole time. I still don't know if I'll still try to finish it.
Mistah Mint….yay. .

That's pretty cool. ^^

I remember playing Candy Land a lot when I was young, too. And, I think you did the character justice. ^^

Thank you.

Mr. Mint was surprisingly tricky to get right during my practice sketches, mostly his head shape. I'm glad he came out pretty good and that you think so too.^^

This picture you've done of Mr. Mint looks very nice, and I also remember being able to play Candy Land when I was younger as well.

Thanks so much! A lot of people seemed to have played it at one point in their young lives...or even in their older ones.

Oh yeah, I remember this character! Never really got the game, but I recognize him. lol

Nice work on both him and the candy canes. The shiny lighting effects look wonderful.

Ha, ha, yeah, once I started reading about the characters on the Candyland wiki, it came back to me.

Thank you! I love how both he and the candy canes came out. Not bad for a first coloring try with Mr. Mint.^^ Heh, I like doing shiny effects. I guess it's just part of my style.

My favorite childhood game! Gloppy was my favorite- super adorable and friendly, plus he's made from chocolate! I used to want to both hug and eat him as a kid! Here's his official bio:

This is absolutely gorgeous! Very appropriate for Christmas! You drew him spot-on, so adorable! Your texturing is amazing- it makes the whole scene look that much more serene and delicious.  You can practically reach out and touch, lick, even smell those canes.

Ah yes, Gloppy. I think he use to be made of molasses, but then changed to chocolate in the early 2000's. I do love me some chocolate. Sadly, I think he's been removed in the most recent version of the game. They really downsized the cast and they really no longer resemble who they once were(Frostine is no longer a queen for example).

Aw, thank you! It took a few practice sketches before I could get Mr. Mint's design down.It was deceptively tricky at first, especially the shape of his head. Heh, he is pretty adorable. I think it's those little dot eyes and smile. I'm quite proud with how the candy canes came out. I decided to go with red and green ones instead of just red to give some variety. And I just realized that those are also Christmas colors.

Thanks again!
