Description ...stoned...

I went to do the 5-lake hike with & . This is a
region in Pizol, eastern Switzerland.

Some geniuses had used their creative minds to build these stone-thingies.
Naturally I had to take a picture.

I reduced saturation a bit, because I didn't want it to look like an average
postcard type of shot.

They're called cairns by the way and that is a really nice shot.

amazing! I've seen a lot of these stone towers here and there near various paths in the mountains, but never so many together! They say that at the base of those stone-things there's a book with the signatures of the people that passed from there, or something like that... (I have to +fav this pic and visit Pizol!)

jeez, talk about hard work to get the stones like that The title serves the picture well.

I'll this one because I do this sort of art myself, so I can strongly relate here. Beautiful scene as well.

oh weird! the rock formations are so unique. i love the smoke or mist blowing over the mountains in the background and the expanse of blue sky above the rocks. very nice!
definately!

Beautiful composition, but did you use any compression on the jpeg export? Because there look to be a few artifacts...

the only reason im commenting is kuz i don't want to be the steriotypical "fav and run" type of person... but i really can't add anything or convey in words how cool this is

Switzerland? It really proves once more that this lovely country has been different from the rest of Europe not only by being constantly neutral but by many other things. I thought it was somewhere in Asia at first sight!

Ah I guess the world is just one single big community

On the picture itself, it's nice, I believe to have it very high and narrow is good because it kind of prolongates the stone-thingies, if you see what I mean.

geil!!!

Very nice - just wished the background wasn't 'spoiled' by the other mountain at distance... would be, imho, more interesting just with the sky.

forget what its called, some hikers build em when they get to summits, ive buit a few, but now i just cant be bothered

excellent shot though, so well balanced, and sharp throughout, i also like how the green just drops away and oyu can see on to the distant peaks

I like how you composed this shot. The rock piles look like small rock mountains reaching for the sky....much like the mountain surrounded by clouds in the background. You left a good amount of sky visible for the shot (an almost perfect balance of 50/50 of the green ground and blue sky) that seems to hint that like the mountain reaching for the sky in the background so too these little rock mountains reach for the sky. I wonder if you could have made that impression even more stronger had you taken the shot at a lower angle (say lying down or sitting....I get the impression you were standing) so that the little rock "mountains" appear to have a little more height to them.

an impressive sight. and i think the reduced saturation has worked really well.

i did try using the similar effect in some of my works but i didnt get any good comments. i still like using it tough.

Hmmmm...reducing saturation to make it less postcardish...never thought of that. That's a good idea! Anyway, I don't think you were in much danger of straying into postcard territory to begin with becasue of the unusual aspect ratio.

It's unusual to see so many summit cairns placed in the same location, I guess the people who decided where the top of this mountain was really were stoned! I like this alot, especially the distant clouds on the mountains. Well done!
