Description It was the old lion's time to go, for angels come in many guises.

I've added a few highlights. I'm gonna call this one finished for now. I may fine tune it in a few days, once it has settled down.

Well I avidly read all your WIP's for this one, I love it. I really like the blue sky it really sets the whole thing off. Im with you with glazes and washes in oil, I have just started to paint in oils and have on my easel at the moment a Tiger we shall see how that turn's out.

Anyway fab job and I love the feel and the colours of this one

Thanks for that. I'm glad you like it.
It's always appreciated when people actually read them.
Good luck with the tiger and if I can be of any help with the oils, give me a shout.

Thanks for the offer any advise greatly appreciated.

The tiger is coming along, and in between waiting for him to dry I have began another animal oil of a baby Orangutan, only this time I have gone bigger as I am finding the small detail with the Tiger a little hard as the canvas isnt so big. So the baby Orangutan is larger and just a head shot. I want to see how detailed I can get if I put my mind to it. I have taken some shots but the camera isnt so good and there was some bad glare back from the wet paint. I have the blocking in so many more hours to go.

I love the soft earthy colours! And it's got nice movement, i like your use of the rule of thirds! Tis awesome!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

crhino In reply to aggie-agatha [2008-03-07 19:51:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I didn't really use thirds though, not intentionally anyway. I guess it just comes naturally after painting for so long.
I did want to paint this on a longer canvas, but I didn't have one at the time. I didn't think it would work like this, but it turned out OK.

Incredible as per the usual for you.
It made me think of the Aesop's fable where the mouse pulls the thorn out of the lion's paw or something like that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

crhino In reply to pepperw [2008-01-21 13:21:17 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. Yeah, that has been mentioned and I do sort of remember the fable.
It was an original idea when I came up with it, but maybe this was lurking deep within my subconscious.

You noticed the sky, well done. That was laziness. I couldn't be arsed to cover it with oil. Well, some of it was meant, hehe.

Cwylldren [2008-01-14 08:38:56 +0000 UTC]

It's great! Maybe a highlight or two on the mouse, just a tad; I think it's wonderful that you only notice it at second glance, but it's still a bit hard to see.

By any chance inspired by the fable of the Lion and the Mouse?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

crhino In reply to Cwylldren [2008-01-14 12:00:49 +0000 UTC]

I tried highlighting it and it looked too obvious. I could fiddle and fiddle with it. There are lots of little things here and there, but I wanted to leave it in a fresh state. It works, so leave it.
I came up with the idea on my own. Since then the fable has been mentioned quite a bit, so maybe it was deep within my subconscious. Who knows.
