Thank you - I'd love to be there again instead of watching the cold of a damp English descend on us

Although it was far from any town, it was surprising it was deserted

Finally done the graphite drawing. I first changed the photo to a greyscale and it looks really impressive in black and white, by the way!
Thank you for permission to use the ref.

Great work. You are right about the monochrome presentation but I rarely think to look at that format. I suppose I am too much of a realist and I'm striving to get colour and contrast to render correctly. In truth some genre really look good in black and white. I always like wedding photographs in monochrome for example but normally I just don't "see" the possibility.
I've just looked back at my gallery and only "Light reflects..." was a deliberate preplanned b/w shot

I'm sure you are right. I really must think about it more often and plan more, or even experiment with my captured images . I think greyscale maybe works better with architectural, mechanical, portrait or still life shots rather than animal captures. We'll see what can be done

Embrace the fluffiness of the clouds and the foam on the waves.
Enjoy the rolling mountains and sand dunes beneath your feet.
Enlighten your life with nature and people you love.
Appreciate all that earth gives you while you're still standing.
Don't let those precious moments get lost in a void of all things we forget.
Keep them close, for they may bring you hope when you most need it.
Ta-da, a poem by yours truly, Sammy

That is really nice, reminding me strongly of Max Ehrmann's prose poem Desiderata. You both have wise words to guide life...

It's not something we have room for in the UK. Any decent sunshine and the main beaches are totally over crowded
...but this one in South Africa was indeed a dream

I saw is this in my notifications for a split second before I erased it from my feed, but then as soon as I clicked the "X", I was like "Oh shit I really love that photo!" So then I tried searching your profile on DAs search, but you can't search users on there, so then I was like "fuck!"... I ended up finding ur account by going to my profile and finding the thank you note you left me for the Llama Badge.
Anyways, great photo!

Yes, I'm too far inland for a quick drive to any beach...by car, about a two day drive. Lack of time and plane fare makes it too much of a hassle to get down there, haven't been to a beach since I was a little kid.
It's always nice when people share photos of their travels anyway though, so thanks for that. Lots to imagine. I'm sure I'll get down there again someday. Although based on all that crazy stuff you're describing, must be hard to find a nice place to relax in peace!

We are a 'Small Island' as Bill Bryson called us in his book title, so the coast is never far away but equally there is not much of it. A couple of deviants have suggested the US, Australia and South Africa have huge areas of coast line and therefore many deserted beaches like the one I photographed. We do have many little coves and bays that might be deserted but they usually involve climbing down cliffs and are barely accessible even then. The main family beaches, as you might describe them, are packed when we have a heat wave

Wow... To be fair this one was miles from anywhere and I guess Australia has miles of coastline away from towns and cities like South Africa

Sometimes the absence of people is a comfortable position to be in. Modern life has too many pressures and demands for peace of mind. The state of solitude, other than maybe including a special loved one, is sometimes to be welcomed.
I certainly enjoyed walking on this beach with just my wife
