Description Carolina Mantis (Stagmomantis carolina)

The Carolina Mantis is a praying mantis native to the Southern United States and one of six species found in North America. It grows to approximately 2.5 inches (64 mm) in length. The Carolina Mantis has a dusty brown, gray, or green color useful as camouflage in certain environments. An unusual trait is that its wings only extend three quarters of the way down the abdomen in mature females.

Sexual cannibalism occurs in roughly one quarter of all intersexual encounters of this species, though specimens of this species will engage in cannibalism regardless of age or gender if the opportunity presents itself. Carolina mantis oothecae (egg cases) can be purchased in garden supply centers as a means of biological control of pest insects. It is the state insect of South Carolina.

Now this is something that is not a prt of your conventional wildlife photography.

Most pictures of insects are of the insect itself in an upright position, almost as if it is posing for the camera. You just take it the extra mile. You show an insect in it's natural habitat, upside down. his is definitely different, and I'm almost positive that it's fairly original as well.

You still have your intense macro shot, with greatly out of focus background. The detail of your subject is fine and clear, and your main subject of the photo can never be mistaken.

Once again, you have outdone yourself.
