An image I've been working on this weekend. I'm pretty happy with how it came out... I got to try a lot of things I've been wanting to work on for a bit...water droplets, loose-coat shading, sideviews. The premise is an inflated woman, barely able to fit into a coat, walking into a party supply store late one stormy evening...~Rathani helped a lot with advice for this.

I going to use my logic with this. Even if a body could hold that much, why use helium? Air could be used. The reason why helium is used in balloons is because it is lighter than air, allowing it to float. Just saying, an average pump will do the job.

Counter-logic. Oxygen is pretty brutal stuff, believe it or not. In fact, at higher concentrations in the human body, it can cause nervous system damage, amongst other things (see oxygen toxicity). Of course, that's breathing pure oxygen at high pressure. Our inflated friend above, however, may be concerned that filling her body with normal old air would introduce reactive gasses like oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide into places where they normally don't exist. What if there is a reaction between the air and her body? By filling herself with helium, a noble gas, completely inert, there is no such risk of undesired reaction.

I would not want to try and inhale excessive helium myself. I don't know if it would still be harmful to keep in your body.

I like how her coat does not even come close to meeting ends in the front of her balloon belly. Also the rain is really a point of focus on her bulging stomach, jacket, and the window panes outside the store. Nice work.

this (style and concept) could make for a great comic (or even better, flash animation). Let's say the store owner girl decides to oblige the inflated woman's request, but only for her pleasure and enjoyment (takes her to back room and inflates her bit, takes off her coat and slowly feels and caresses her breasts, which could be inflated too, and round belly and belly button, rubs the inflated woman--the inflated woman realizes she enjoys this predicament and helplessness)

Well, I can try...
Regarding the first part of your question...it is, in general, a fetish based in imagination only. Regarding the second part of your question, I'm sure that the reasons different people are interested in it differ, but I will try to make a generatlization. First of all, I'm sure you can agree that different people find different shapes and sizes of people attractive. Therefore, some people find very large people attractive. To a subset of some of those people, they find the idea of a smaller person becoming large an interesting concept, since to them, a large person is more interesting. There's a number of fetishes that are all related to this concept, which are normally termed "Expansion" fetishes, and they all relate to a person becoming larger in some way. Several examples in the "Expansion" genre include interests in giant-height people, weight-gain, pregnancy, etc. One of the slightly more unexpected examples is an interest in a person inflating like a balloon, as shown here. It's also worth pointing out that people with an interest in one type of "expansion" fetish are not necessarily interested in the other types, but some people are interested in multiple types.
