Meaning: Glowing with pride
Age: Adolescent (1 year 3 mos)
Pride: Mwanzo
Physical Appearance: Jiona has a brown pelt, desaturated brown eyes, and a dark tail tuft. Her nose and ears are tipped in a darker brown and she sports a dorsal stripe. She walks very tall, proud of her ancestry, and has a light step. She fancies herself a great hunter so may be seen often practicing pouncing and walking silently. Adult height will be 3ft 3 inches.
Personality: Jiona is outgoing and friendly to most everyone. She has a huge problem with hybrids and relationships that are not of the same species. She thinks lions are the top predator and shouldn’t encourage the mixing of any other weaker predator.

Loyal: Fiercely and to death, she is loyal to her pride, friends, and family she hasn’t disowned.

Smart: Jiona can navigate her mind into making connections and arguments in order to debate with the best of them. Clever and observant, she thrives on learning and soaks up all the information she can. She is a lightning fast learner and is becoming an avid huntress, obsessed with perfecting it.

Independent: She wants to be seen as capable and grown up and not needing any help.

Self-Absorbed: It’s not like she doesn’t like hearing the droning and boring stories of others, it’s just that she knows she’s much more entertaining to listen to and has better stories. She might miss your pain since she has her own plans for the day. She has no lack of compassion, but tends to miss the plights of others unless told outright.

Intolerant: For cowardice, for stupidity, even simple ignorance, for weakness, illness, and for a lack of talent. There are few second chances with Huzuni.

Judgmental: She hates excuses and has a tough time seeing that experiences and the history of others are just as valid as her own. She also doesn’t understand this whole homosexual thing and turns her nose up at it. (OOC: This is NOT my personal opinion but I want to give my character some room to grow).

History: Jiona’s mother, Maji, was a vagabond after her pride died out during a very long drought. The two survivors, who had not been particularly fond of the other, split up to find another Pride. Jiona’s mother found the Mwanzo pride, but not before meeting up with a rogue male in search of a pride of his own. The two nearly decided to begin their own pride, but Jiona’s father decided that it would be easier to drive an older male out of an already established pride.

Jiona’s mother, not wanting any part of the carnage her mate was about to cause to an elderly male lion, begged him to reconsider, telling him she loved him. The male, cocky and impatient, made fun of Maji and told her that if she wanted to dote on him, that was her problem. He also told her that his mind was made up and if she wanted to be with him, she had to follow him. Maji left early the next morning without his knowledge sporting a broken heart for she had loved the male lion whose cubs she now carried. Her mother was not showing when she joined Mwanzo and kept her pregnancy a secret for the first couple of weeks. When her cubs were born, she had already made friends.

Jiona was one of two cubs born and Maji named them after the emotions she felt. Her younger brother, Chuki, meaning hatred, died only a few weeks after birth. She barely knew him as he was sickly from day one. This made her the only child, however and she understood the value of being the strong one from this. Never wanting her mother to have to lose another cub, Jiona was determined to survive. She flourished, in part because her mother doted on her after her brother’s death.
