Actually, those gold scales are part of the fabric. This costume was actually supposed to be a RED dragon, but I couldn't find a red scale fabric that didn't look hyper dorky / toony. Β I think this was just "Reptile print" microsuede (no stretch, yuck! I found it at joanne's fabric store) but this was my first costume and I just sort of went with whatever I found. I now design my costumes/ characters based off fabrics instead of finding fabrics to match a character / design. For my Otachi costume I used 4 way stretch microsuede and then used fabric paint (puff paint) to "draw" on each individual scare which got great results. VERY time consuming, but great results.

Thanks for the info! And yea, I totally understand what you mean about it being hard to find a pattern for a red dragon that doesn't look ridiculous XD

Can't even be half as bad as the crap my camera takes. I think I'm photography challenged... or just too damn cheap to get a good camera. Guess it didn't matter as I wasn't exactly taking too many photos with that head blocking my vision anyways, hah.

haha same! It was a disposable camera, and turns out, the photos got corrupted or something because the camera was faulty! what are the odds?

That's poop!! I bought a Nikon cool pix for cons as it was only $100 for what I -thought- would be an okay camera. Yeah. No. Within one day the pixels started to die and it's not like I treat my things badly. I treated it like a God. Piece of crap is what it is. Cannot take a decent picture to save it's dead pixel butt.

aw jeez! I would like to have a nice camera like that, but I don't think I could keep good track of it.
Im also getting a DVC resin mask in the mail tomorrow, btw! I got a cool predator bird one, so thats why I recognized your dragon base from somewhere!Β

Hehe The camera was all I could afford, but I thought the cool pix where supposed to be pretty decent for the price. I was wrong. Very wrong.
As for DVC masks, my dragon costume wasn't actually made with a DVC mask, I find that their dragon heads (and a lot of their heads) are very big, Β and I'm not a very big person, so they tend to look goofy on me. I like to keep things pretty well proportioned and I seriously hate costumes that end up with bobbleheads. The resin mask I used for my dragon costume is from Shape19, her original drake maks which she no longer makes.
I however have a large predatory bird mask, a sergal, a large feline, and a small feline from DVC sitting in my upstairs room for possible future projects (along with various others from different vendors).

Oh! Her drake mask looks so good! I'm so mad she doesn't have any predator bird casts for sale, and everyone I like's commissions are closed!
My mask should be coming in the mail tomorrow, so I hope its well proportioned! As for putting fur/feathers on it, well, I have no clue.
I was really impressed with their masks so I hope the bird mask is just as impressive!

I have one of Sharpe19's bird masks also, but it's pretty small, it wont even fit my head and I'm tiny, so I need to do a TONE of work on it (and the beak is VERY heavy, all the resin pooled up at the end so the beak is like...1.5 inches this, lol, I'll have to get all that out.
As for DVC, you can ALWAYS expect perfection from them. Their masks are perfect as any faulty ones that get pulled are sold later, they don't send customers faulty ones -ever-. They are light, well proportioned, and just fun all around, I'm sure you'll be very impressed! I used a round nose dragon blank for them for my upcoming Otachi cosplay for Anime Boston 2015.

Thanks a ton! I'm sort of sad we didn't get more pictures. But I guess there will be more cons to go to! (and Renaissance/ medieval fairs!).
