Description
It was quiet in his study.
His parents had given him a separate room in the mansion just for his schooling, saying it was necessary to separate both work and the place you sleep. Atticus had thought maybe they just moved his schooling in that room because it didn't have windows and was one of the few rooms you could lock from the outside. But that was clearly not the case, how his head could even think such a traitorous thought in regard to his parents was just a sign of how much more schooling he needed. They gave him this room because it had little distractions, no viewing of what may be happening outside, and no attempting to sneak out to avoid his studies.
It was the perfect room.
The candles continued to drip their wax into the candle holder. Those were the last four in this room, the maids must have forgotten to restock.
Silly workers.
This was good though, this was a good room, because of his parents' gift, he was able to learn to read and write much faster than the other wynglings in the Nook. There was only books, papers, and ink in the desk to look at. Though the ink also ran out, so he was reading for now. He would just have to practice writing later, when his parents deemed his hour of studying over and he could ask for ink.

He didn't know hours felt this long.ย

The books his parents put in this room were rather old, they certainly had.. views, that he didn't share. These must have been the books his parents studied, and they were very successful, so it wouldn't hurt to read them and see what he could take from them. It was the only intereting thing he could do in this room. It was his study, he was studying. 'Traditional ettiquette for ladies'... 'How to be the proper woman for your spouse'...

He wondered what Naveah was doing.
Would she be interested in a book like this?
Probably not, something tells him she'd smack him upside the head for even offering the book to her. Atticus himself kind of wants to hit whoever wrote this as well. Would lady Vivvian study this then? Maybe... It's more likely, this is a very good book if his parents have it, Vivvian must have more than this of the same subject matter. It would explain how she's so proper all the time. Even he gets a little tired of sitting up straight and displaying proper manners. Though, the wynglings at the Nook seemed to like it. They've never seen an actual proper gro, never lived in high society, they had even taken to calling him 'prince'!
Seeing and talking to all of them was different.... interesting. Such strange wynglings they were... to just act those ways. Had their parents not taught them at least basic manners? They must be very stubborn children, or terrible parents, if none of it stuck.

Atticus drops his arm to his lap, to instead rest his head on the stack of books next to him. His arm feels numb, from the cut of blood circulation that positionย caused.
He looked to the door. A moment later his eyes adjusted to the darkness and he could see the faint light from under the door.
....
He wishes he could open the door and see the light.
