Description A painting I made for a friend after a photo reference. We both dive, and have made deep obeisance to the almighty ocean in the hope of seeing a manta ray. So far, no luck... More beer, ocean?

Acrylics.

- EDIT-

Apparently, the thing to give the sea to see mantas is ... hair??

02/10: I AM NO LONGER A MANTA-GIN! I HAVE SEEN A MANTA!!!

At first I thought it was an actual photo, and then I read the description and was like "holy hell, I thought it was real!" You did an awesome job with just a photo for reference

Whauw, i am so flattered! Though, I did use a photo as a reference, otherwise I cannot paint that naturalistic Thank you.

No problem! I was looking for a nice picture reference of the bottom of a Manta Ray for my English homework, and I found one I was having issues because most of them didn't have the same lighting as this one. I needed one of a ray in front of the moon (sun's good enough) for my report on The Sea Devil by Arthur Gordon. So really, thank you

I dunno...any kind? Those sharp, huge wings that glide ever so gently yet fast in the current...

Come to Florida...At certain times of the day
they come into the beach to hunt for squid...
You don't need any gear. They can be seen
when you snorkle!

That sounds a-ma-zing! And the lack of gearing up speaks to my lazy side Any specific season? Or is it always hot in Florida

Late August or early September....I don't know why...It just works for me. Not as many tourists and not as much rain. The beach was
quiet and there were sooo many beautiful fish an incredible experience. Yeah, I really prefer not to gear up after working all day. There are a number of great places to open water dive either off
the coast or down in the keys..Key Largo has a underwater park just for scuba diving. You can also snorkel there, but you have to get there by boat. If you like shrimping or chasing lobsters, we also have a special season for that..Come on down!

Hehe, I am definitely going back to the states (have been to NY) and sounds like Florida is the place to come by.

great painting! how did you get the flash not to show up, cuz i have a couple canvas paintings that i just cant submit cuz the flash reflects too much, and the canvas texture creates weird patterns in the photo.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Crysomandiaz In reply to sharkplane77 [2008-08-21 08:26:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Well, I stuffed the painting into my scanner -_- I wasn't even aware ppl photograph their paintings until recently. Must get digital camera...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

sharkplane77 In reply to Crysomandiaz [2008-08-21 23:11:35 +0000 UTC]

wow! you must have a really big scanner! mine dident even fit pages from my sketchbook in it, let alone one of my large paintings!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Crysomandiaz In reply to sharkplane77 [2008-08-21 23:18:46 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, maybe you have a small scanner ^^ Mine is A4 (standard paper), and I hate it.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

sharkplane77 In reply to Crysomandiaz [2008-08-22 00:12:41 +0000 UTC]

lol, yeah, my scanner sucks too! plus its standard too, so your painting must have been on a smaller canvas.
