Description Manta ray at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. It was a beautiful aquarium, the largest in the world. Unfortunately I found fewer exibits than I thought there would be. The bulk of the site was a large ballroom, food court, playground, and huge beluga tank that had no belugas... What was there was very cool and very fun to see and take pictures of. But definetly not that big as far as live collection goes.

Coolest thing at this aquarium were the whale sharks! They had four, this and one other manta ray were in the same tank. I got lots of pictures of them too... but this shot was really the winner of the night!

How awesome is this? And you got the shy manta, too! (Nandi, the one from South Africa, is more commonly the one seen in the exhibit, this little girl likes to hide in the back) Where did you take this picture?

From the perspective, it might be the underwater tunnel ...

This is so etherial. just curious, but have you ever been to the Newport Aquarium in Newport, KY? It's beautiful, and not just for children. they have all kinds of nifty stuff, and an enourmous live collection. not a ballroom in sight, last I checked...

Shedd's Aquarium is great, too, but Atlanta is the best.

I'll have to check those out, if I ever travel anywhere other than where I am now.

Go to Shedd's, if you can, first. Then you won't be disappointed with it when comparing it to Atlanta. The one cool thing about Shedd's is going in the winter and watching the dolphin/beluga whale show, with Lake Michigan frozen over in the background ...

if I ever get out of this state, I'll do just that. I had plans to go to Chicago anyway, so that might just be one of the trips I make this coming year... *crosses fingers*

it is a nice aquarium, but true, there aren't that many exhibits.

EXACTLY!!! its the perfect plan... that is one big tank though, i want to go swimming in it >:3

MasterOfPointillism In reply to kaizen0 [2009-11-12 04:13:01 +0000 UTC]

You can, but you need to have a scuba license and around $300. It's probably cheaper than going to the Caribbean and swimming with Whale sharks in the wild ...

kaizen0 In reply to MasterOfPointillism [2009-11-12 04:25:30 +0000 UTC]

but i've already been to the caribbean, i grew up there... no whale sharks where i was, but the tank looks cooler, and it would be cheaper to go there. plane tickets are usually $400+ to get down there XD
