Description The Brood

Representing the sin of envy, the Brood are intelligent, predatory abominations with dinosaur-like features.
Extremely adaptable, they live in a matriarchal hieracy, ruled by enormous queens.

Since they are early manifestations of Envy, they constantly try to take over what belongs to others, even by reproducing; in fact, the queens spread their species by infecting other lifeforms, turning them into broodlings. Quite interestingly, while green is the color most associated with the sin of Envy, the Brood present themselves with a brown-reddish skin. There have been, however, some green speciements withnessed.

The most peculiar trait of the Brood, besides their reproductive system, is that they're rather bland looking compared to other creatures. They faintly rensemble prehistoric looking dragons. This is just an impression and little else. These creatures are completely sentient, and totally twisted in their mentality, considering everything that is not Brood unworthy to exist.

Broodlings

Broodlings are the queen's children and servants, and stand aproximately 2 mt tall and 4 mt long.

Common abilities of Broodlings are:

Physical attributes: Enhaced strenght, enhaced senses, good speed, nasty bite, claws, flight, poisonous stinger, hypnotic rattle;

Adaptable- Broodlings can run, climb, swim and fly, so no ground is a real problem for them;

Looks can deceive- Broodlings look bestial, but they have quite an intelligence, and are able to comprehend and speak most other languages, even use tools and magic;

Sentient- While linked to the queen and unable to disobey her, each Broodling has an itelligence of its own, able to take its own decisions by itself;

Parasitic- Any of the host's abilities are, once turned, inherited by the new broodling, memories included. Same goes for the sex, with the exception of Queens, but then again sex has very little importance for the Brood;

Host-Form- Broodlings can revert into their host's form whenever they please, shifting into their true form when needed. Hybrid forms are also possible;

Hypnosis- The rattle on Broodlings's tails is able to produce a particular, unknown sound frequence able to shut down most of the neural system, pretty much paralyzing any hearing it. The rattle must, however, works only at close rage, and can take some time to be effective. Other Brood are unaffected by it;

Poison- While the rattle is realized to immobilize possible hosts, the two stingers are designed to kill. Able to stab through most materials, they can deliver a lethal dose of neurotoxin;

Dormant virus- Should occur that there's no Queen present, Broodlings can produce in their bodies a transformation virus similar to the Queen's, and can infect more hosts themselves. However, this virus is much slower than the Queen's and then to tire the Broodling using it very much, to the point that, once it infected someone, it may take days or even weeks for said Broodling to use it again;

Queen

Queens look exactly like broodlings, with the only difference that they stand 5 meters tall and 10 meters long. They have pretty much the same abilities Broodlings show, except:

Breeder: Inside her body, the Brood Queen develops a unique virus, a lycanthropy-like disease she uses to propagate the species. she injectes a certain dose of toxin in the host (how this method exactly works is unknown) which slowly turns the victim into a Broodling or, sometimes, another Queen. It is unknown if she has some control on which Brood will be born, but it appears she does;

Mother of the hive- the queen is the supreme rulerof her nest, there's none who can siscuss her orders. The interactions, if any, between the various queens are unknown, but it appears they all answer to one mind, the Empress;

The Brood are guided and held together by the Brood Empress, a huge beast who housed the Brood's hive mind, meaning that every time one of them dies, she can produce another one. No mortal has ever seen the Empress, and her powers are vastly unknown.

I like these guys, they are a strange combo of ideas, past characters and just plain CD craziness. As Gil pointed out, the hint of Vertigo goes over very smoothly, though on the other hand I find the double stingers a tad cumbersome. In nature, you only use as much venom as you really have to, this design would mean they would use far more then ever needed. Unless the enzymes are housed separately and then mixed inside the prey when both stingers inject. Of course snakes have two fangs, but most species have extremely good muscle control to only let out venom in the correct doses. Scorpions, who share the tail mounted design do not have such fine control.

You get what I'm saying? While neat, it's kinda impractical unless it has a way to regulate the venom, which the tail mounted design hints against.

LOL thanks dude.

Got it. Well, the stingers deliver venom yes, but their main function would be stabbing the enemy, then if he survives, the venom will finish him.

Ah, so they are more like Xeno tail blades. Meaning they are used for killing or pinning down prey, but if they manage to escape the venom slows them down.

I love it

While not much has changed from your initial sketches, I think that was the better choice in the end. The designs of the broodlings and their queen both give impressions of speed, stealth, and primal jealousy. I see a bit of Vertigo in their designs as well, though that new double stinger is just plain cool. Their "plainness" also attests to their unending lust for material gains in a rather monstrous case of the "haves" and the "have-nots", constantly yearning for more and more as is their nature. Great job as usual, my friend

Thanks bro .

Everything just as planned. You'll see more of her with the Empress, once she reveal herself.
