Hey all. Due to my increasingly busy schedule right now, I won't exactly have time to do Mermay this year, but I did want to get at least one mermaid done before the end of the month. I've decided to step away from the official prompts and do my own thing for this one.
This mermaid is based on the Jengu (plural: Miengu), a water spirit from Cameroon. They are said to be half human half fish like a traditional mermaid, with long flowing hair and gap toothed smiles. They seem to be among the friendlier mermaid types, and are often associated with healing. Women who worship them are said to wear dresses made of ferns, so I decided to incorporate that into her design and drape some water ferns over her.
