Great work!

I just realised, your landscape drawings would make pretty awesome backgrounds for battles in RPG Maker.

Oh, I don't know if they'd fit the style of the usual manga battlers however!

You are probably right about the standard battlers, but there are thousands of others on the internet, some of them are bound to look good and if that fails, you could create some cute looking battlers yourself.

Not sure I'd ever use those myself though, since I'm not really the biggest fan of the JRPG style combat systems!

Well, to each his own.
As far as I know, you can create pretty decent combat without using the JRPG combat system.Β For example the combat you had in KDM was nice. If one would desire, a little tinkering withΒ that combat system and it could be made more complex and spectacular.

That's probably true, although I'm not familiar with Ruby / scripting for RPGMaker and would probably use a different engine for that D:

I'm not very familiar with scripting either. We had a computer class at school
and we did some basic scripting, but that was ages ago.

There should be plenty of scrips made by others, just need to find the one you want to use.

True, but I'm not the biggest fan of piecing together my code like that. I think I prefer understanding what my game does as far as that's possible at least.

Well, yeah. Hard to fix mistakes in the code, that you know are bound to happen, if you don't understand anything about it.

Indeed, reading other people's code mostly makes my brain melt.

I tried it a couple of times. At first it looks like a bunch of gibberish, but some time later you are slowly starting to understand what is what.

Yes, I think some pieces of code are more understandable than others as well - I could figure out some things in RPG Maker in an acceptable time, but things like 3D camera code in UDK were really too much for me

If I am not mistaken, what we do in RPG Maker is not actually coding,Β but we are
entering commands and them the program writes the code for us. Something like
that.

cubehero In reply to Dahgnear [2014-12-18 03:33:47 +0000 UTC]

Well I would say anything where you write - instead of, for instance, programming via visual scripting might qualify as coding. After all, anything above machine-level code works the way you just described.
(I sadly went to university for computer science, at least I should remember some things still) I'm not completely sure about all the categorizations there might be for these things, however.

Hmm... Yeah, it might be simplified coding, but it does not change the fact that it's still coding.
