Well, I disliked Grandia 2 because it was like they took everything awesome about Grandia and rip it out and replaced them with something crap from Lunar...

I dislike Skies because the rate of encounter was WAY TOO HIGH. It was 5 steps bam! So I never got too far in it to actually judge it. Now, if you like the original Grandia...ignore Grandia 3 at ALL COST. Instead grab Star Ocean 2.

The random encounter rate in Skies is only high on the world map, really. In dungeons and whatnot, the random encounter rate was fine. The only reason it was annoying on the world map was because of the added y or z direction, which thus created a world that was begging to be explored, but you were deterred from doing so because of the random encounter rate. The very average battle system doesn't really help either, but I think the game pulls everything it tries to accomplish so wonderfully and with such finesse that I can't help but love it.

As for Lunar... I hated Lunar 1, but I loved Lunar 2.

So which do you like better? Grandia 2 or Skies?

What an odd thing to ask; Didn't you, like, not like either of them, so why the sudden curiosity?

To answer your question, I liked Skies of Arcadia better. I'm not sure what I think of Grandia II anymore, I'd have to play it again to see if it was as good as I thought it was (I was in my mid-teens when I played it). You see, the thing is, I've been re-evaluating games I didn't like before; I actually hated the original Grandia when I first played it (I played it a couple of years after Grandia II). I've been playing the original Grandia again recently and I was all like, "What, I used to hate this? What the hell was wrong with me, this game is sweet!" I'm almost afraid that if I played Grandia II again, my view of the game might be tarnished (I held the Grnadia II in very high regard at the time, but it was also like one of my first ten RPGs so I was extremely impressionable), and my expectations of the game wouldn't live up to the first Grandia anymore.

I've completed Skies of Arcadia about three times (it was a time when I was a teen and had no money and businesses wouldn't take minors as employees, so I had to make my games last), so I see no need to re-evaluate my feelings on that game.
