งูทางมะพร้าวแดงภูหลวง.Oreocryptophis porphyraceus coxi.
Also known as the Thai Bamboo Racer/Ratsnake.
A subspecies of the Oreocryptophis porphyraceus, the Thai Red Mountain Racer is endemic to just a small area in Northeastern Thailand and easily distinguished from the other subspecies for their two black lateral stripes combined with a fiery red body, rendering it a stunningly coloured snake.
Their striking beauty makes it a highly requested and sought after species in the herpetoculture scene, although it is known to be quite secretive and nervous (especially hatchlings). Unlike most other snakes, the Thai Red Mountain racer prefers colder climates, due to living in mountain areas.
Although prown to hectic biting, it is a non-venomous and perfectly harmless snake. Their Thai name refers to coconut leaf (which is often used for brooms) as well as the royal mountain regions where it originates from.

Aw, awesome c: I actually just saw a little garter snake during cross country practice today. It was a tiny little baby, only about seven or eight inches long and all black with a few vertical white stripes ^-^

I'd be perfectly happy already if i could only take a picture of them in person someday (encountering a wild one would be the jackpot but that is unlikely, since i don't live in the Northeastern region). They are just stunning to look at and i can definitely see why people would want to get a hand on them, though i've heard that they can be quite skittish and prone to stress.

Ah, glad you like it. Mir fehlt mittlerweile die Zeit für regelmäßige, ausführliche Kommentare - aber ich verfolge deine Werke natürlich immer noch sehr aufmerksam und mit der gleichen Faszination wie vorher. Mich hat eine dicke Malblockade erwischt, aus deren Fängen ich mich immer noch nicht so recht lösen kann. Ich hoffe, der baldige Urlaub (Wandern in Norwegen!) bringt vielleicht ein wenig Frische in mein Hirn.

Oh, this snake is easily one of the most beautiful Thai colubrid snakes! Only second to the Beauty rat snake in my opinion, I think. I really love their red/black stripe. Too bad they are illegal to keep here and also require fully air conditioning, chilling room to stay alive...
