Description                                           Not Enough
Lexi is a 19 year old on her own in the city of LA. She just got home to her run-down apartment after walking back from the cemetery where her friend/lover was buried last year.
Memory is the character that represents Lexi’s friend/lover. He has Shoulder-length, shaggy, black hair, chocolate brown eyes, and un-naturally pale skin, very tall; slightly muscular, dark clothes.
Addiction represents the tempting voice in Lexi’s head, she’s meant to look like a drug-addicted form of Lexi; her former self. As the curtain rises, Memory is in the shadows, upstage in the right corner.
Addiction follows behind Lexi, looking like her twin; Only with dark, tired eyes, pale skin, clothes the same as Lexi – but torn and falling loose on her thinning body.

                                                                                 Scene One:
[Curtain rises, Lexi is at left end of stage. She steps inside her apartment and slams the door then walks into the kitchen. She leans against the counter and takes the powder-filled bag out of her pocket and stares at it.]

Addiction: [Stands beside Lexi and leans close to her ear and smirks, then whispers]
You know that I’m wrong, but you also know that the pain is too deep and the memories, - too strong; and you, my long lost friend, have grown too weak to resist such a temptation.

Lexi: What am I thinking?! I got past this once . . . or, at least, I thought I did. Have I really fallen back into this? . . .
[Throws her head back against the cupboard, closes her eyes tight and grips the little bag forcefully in her fist. She looks back down at it, then stomps toward the bathroom at center stage. She holds the bag over the toilet, then hesitates to drop it.]

Addiction: [Peers her head around the bathroom door at Lexi, then stands behind her]
You know you wanted this. [Puts her hands on Lexi’s shoulders and leans her face closer to hers]
You wanted me, the rush, the chill, the pure adrenalin of being on the edge of death. The memory of him; the one you loved, the one that truly loved you back, the one that showed you how to live. Do you even remember how his skin felt? How he moved and walked? How he smelt?
[Grips tighter on Lexi’s shoulders]

[Lexi starts to shake and bites at her lip nervously]

Addiction: If you flush me away, nothing, and I mean nothing, will bring him back to you.

Lexi: [Pulls loose of Addictions grip. Then shakes her head and paces the bathroom. Still clutching the bag in her fist, she stops in front of the door. Hurriedly, she shuts the door and locks it, then tears a tiny hole in the bag and spills a thin line onto the counter of the sink. She kneels and breathes it in, then steadies herself against the counter]

[Addiction smiles and watches Lexi as she slowly allows herself to fall back against the wall and slides down onto the tiled floor. stage goes black, curtain falls]

                                                                          Scene Two:
[Curtain rises, Memory is standing on the outside of the bathroom door]

Memory: [shakes the knob on the bathroom door. Then, slams his shoulder against the wood repeatedly]
Lexi! Open the door! You have to let me in! NOW! Wake up!

[Lexi opens her eyes into slits, clutching onto the rug a few inches from where she landed on the floor]

Addiction: [Sitting on the edge of the sink, looks at the shaking door, then at Lexi]
Well, what did I tell you? There he is. And from the sound of it, he’s not happy.

[Lexi opens her eyes a little wider and stares at the door but doesn’t reach for it]

Addiction: Don’t you want to let him in?

Lexi: I . . . I can’t. How could I? He’s . . . he’s gone.

[Memory keeps pounding on the door and calling for Lexi to open it]

Addiction: Doesn’t sound like it to me. He’s waiting for you, just behind this door. It’s the only thing that’s separating you from his strong arms, his gentle hands, chocolate eyes that melt your heart, jet black hair with a smell that comforts you along with the warmth of his skin; touching yours. But, if you won’t open the door, I guess he’ll just fade, like the rest of your memories. Is that what you want?

Lexi: I . . . I think I took too much.

Addiction: You want him.

Lexi: Too much.

Addiction: You need him.

Lexi: Too much.

Addiction: You can’t live without him.

Lexi: Too much.

Memory: [Knocks the door open and kneels on the floor next to Lexi.  He picks her up into his arms and cradles her in his lap]
Are you Crazy!? I didn’t want this, not for you. You promised me, Lexi. You promised.

Addiction: [Gets next to Lexi’s face with an evil smirk plastered to hers]
He also promised you. He promised he’d be there for you, always. He said he’d never let anything hurt you.

Lexi: [Looks up at her Memory, tears beginning to flow freely down her cheeks, shaking uncontrollably in a cold sweat, she reaches a hand up to his face]
Please, tell me you’re here; for real.

Memory: [Holds her hand against his face, then holds her tighter as he presses his lips to her forehead and closes his eyes while he lets his own tears fall.]
. . . I can never be real again.

[Addiction laughs]

Lexi: Don’t say that! If you can never be real again, you can’t be real now! But you have to be, because I won’t lose you again!
[Shakes her head and closes her eyes tightly]

Memory: [Holds her head in both of his hands to keep her still and make her look at him]
I’m sorry Lexi . . . I’m so sorry.

Addiction: [Throws her head back in laughter]
You see! Do you see what I’ve done!? He was your love! And I, I’m what took him away from you! It won’t be long from now that I’ll have taken you too!

Lexi: [Looks to Memory, then to Addiction, then back to Memory with a confused, horrified expression on her face] Too much.

Memory: [Touches Lexi’s face gently, then cries] Lexi, you’re going to die.

Lexi: Too much. [Her eyes fall shut]

[Curtain closes while Addiction’s hysterical, evil laughter fades. The lights fade with it.]

                                                                   Scene Three:

[Memory is offstage. Addiction is center-stage in shadow. Lexi’s area of the stage is the only one lit up]

[Lexi awakes on the bathroom floor; alone, shivering, and can hardly move. After looking around, she reaches a shaking hand up to the counter, propping herself up on her elbow. She grabs the powder-filled bag, and falls back onto the tile. All lights go off.]

[Spot light appears on Addiction, alone, she sits cross-legged with her head down.]

Addiction: [Looks up.] Not Enough.

[Spot light goes out, the stage is dark. Final curtain close]
