Personality:
To put it simply Gilbert is a clueless idiot. To put it less simply, he is socially awkward, clumsy, egotistic, obsessive, overly curious, and, once again, an idiot. Although he is book smart, when it comes to what is socially acceptable he knows nothing. Personal boundaries and etiquette mean nothing to him, almost constantly finding himself in uncomfortable situations. Not that he notices that is.

History:
Gilbert was born to loving parents in the kingdom of Necros. Devoted to their homeland, despite the prejudice and racism against them and others, they stayed. It was their home, and they were not prepared to give up on it. After the birth of their son however, their loyalties changed. They cared more about his safety then Necros, and so when he was five years old and strong enough to travel they fled to Crispin and from the chaos of their homeland.

Building a small home on the coast of the Bliss Sea, Gilberts parents made their living fishing, and their life became content and peaceful. Wanting to share this idealic life with the rest of their family, Gilberts dad journeyed back into Necros to find them. He never returned. Not hearing from her husband, Mrs Ellington chose to go back herself and took her son with her. On the way however, whilst making camp, Gilbert wandered off, and he never saw his mother again. Eventually finding his way back home, he waited for his parents in vain. He was eight years old.

Since then, Gilbert lived on his own in the small home his parents made. Knowing the basics of fishing, he kept himself fed, mainly eating sea snails, which he developed an unhealthy fascination for. A few years later he was found by humans and brought to the capital of Crispin, but the years with only snails to talk to had left him socially awkward at best. He proved himself to be exceptionally intelligent however, acing classes, science and mechanics in particular. Earning the title of "scholar" at the tender age of sixteen, specializing in molluscs, Gilbert preferred to do his research out on the field and quickly returned to his home beside the Bliss Sea. There he remained, until now.

Answering Crispin, his countries call, Gilbert has decided to journey north, towards the unknown lands for the good of his people... and to discover more species of mollusc.
