Description Starting to get happy with my LAMH preset for the HW Leopard  (adult)- aiming to try to do a longer version too to simulate an Asian/Amur Leopard. That preset might possibly work with the Snow Leopard I am working on too.

Hey Szark- Thanks! That is an iray render. Honestly I don't do much more than I absolutely have to with 3DL- I just don't like it I much preferred Poser Firefly. I really didn't do much with DS until they came out with Iray.

I spent a bunch of time over the holidays learning more abut using LAMH to create presets and will likely start over over on all my big cat ones.

Hello there.

I was wondering if it was Iray but one can never be too sure these days. I don't have LAMH but if you make these available I might just pic it up. I love the HW animals, so much better than the DAZ ones.

I only work in Iray these days but I still do a bit of work for others concerning 3DL surface settings. I never got on with Poser. I find DS so much easier when it comes to mass surface adjustments. I just don't like having to do one at a time in Poser. Great piece of software though just not for me. I have only done two renders in Poser 8. They are in my Gallery.

Hey Szark

All of my LAMH presets will work with the free LAMH player (as does Saiyaness' House Cat ones) so heck try out some of the free LAMH presets for our HW Dog and Cat and see how they work for you Newer LAMH presets I am working on, including these Big Cat ones, I will be charging a small cost- probably will fall under 'Sweet Deals" at HW.

I've been using Poser since v2 LOL so I do still find a "place" for the looks and style I can generate there (and not with 3DL) and have sold and licensed much artwork I've made there over the last 15 years, so yeah I do still like Poser And of course when I started doing al this 3D stuff, DS didn't even exist Then the early Mac versions crashed like crazy.  So glad they fixed that. I do TOTALLY get you on the materials room there though.  P11 has made it a little easier for us vendors but yeah it can be rather tedious.  Def one of the things I do like better about DS.

And yeah, hands down our HW critters are so much better than the Daz ones

Hiya cwrw

I have the free player, used it once for the DAZ dog/wolf and didn't like the results.

I don't mind paying for the presets at all. It was nice seeing the Cat and Dogs free and thought they should be a least a nominal fee.

I came to DAZ Studio on V2 with DS3 a few months later and been using it since.

I remember having Poser 2 or 3 free on my first PC but I just didn't like the look of the characters. Granted is was in the early days of such software and I had no idea what the software was for. LOL Plus we had dial up internet and because of that I didn't bother searching to find out why. It was only when I got broadband August 2007 that a whole new world opened up and I haven't looked back. I won Poser 8 in a render comp with this image.

I then made this image in Poser 8 in 2011. The only postwork was the smoke. The rest I added to the texture maps before rendering. That was shortly after Photobox came out.

I remember my first image in DS, delving in to the Surfaces Pane. Crap image but it taught me a lot which without knowing helped me to start to earn from it a few years ago. Now I am embarking on learning to model properly. Done bits and bobs for my own renders in the past. Had a go at making textures from scratch www.daz3d.com/hard-graft-for-c… which I am quite proud of. Shame not many folks want stuff like that. But I got paid well for it.

Best thing I did getting in to this rendering lark. Never been artistic given my art teacher said I had no talent for it and I believed him.

Hey Szark

Thanks!  I don't mind I did the dog ones for free- was part of the learning process and there are some errors in the Dog ones. I may even go back in and fix a few things on them, now I know more. The puppy one I did is "cleaner" and I am happy with that one Also I wanted give some support to the Dog as I get so sick of people saying they won't buy HW animals (which are so obviously superior in so many ways) because they don't have fur Yeah LAMH has it's limitations, especially in Iray since one can't use the Iray Catalyzer with non-AM products, but it is way better than nothing. And it does get quite easy (and fast) to make decent presets in LAMH.  I did the Puppy one in about 2 hours. I've pretty much given up on the Poser Hair Room...that is a LOAD of work.... But yeah I am feeling more confident in my LAMH abilities now and will start to charge a nominal cost for future ones.

LOL I got Poser on a mega sale way back, as a way to have a cheap digital "mannequin" for my illustration and design biz. I am way better at animals as that has always been where my artistic interests lie, but I did need to do people once in a while and I found using Poser that way helpful.  I used to live in New York City where it was easy to get a human model anytime. Lots harder in the boonies where I live now Bryce 5 was my "big" entry into the 3d world back in 2004 and then I got Poser 5 really cheap, grabbed the then new Daz Mil Horse and the rest is history as they say

That is a nice Bryce render! Especially from "back in the day"!

And I well remember your "Working Man" image- well done!! I think your postwork is well done- smoke is so hard to do well.

LOL I know about crap images.  I have LOADS of them from when I got started on all this Once in a while I'll go back and look at them and just laugh But yeah it is a learning curve. Needless to say I was so overwhelmed when both Iray and Superfly came out about the same time and I HAD to learn them. It's taken me 2 years to finally really get comfortable/more confident with them.

That is a nice set at Daz! Yeah selling "male" stuff can be hard. I mainly did my Dusk products to show support for them, and for fun.

Well I have to say you definitely have a talent for the 3D world! Sounds like you had a bad art teacher...you have a very good "eye" and great attention to detail.

Hiya

What people actually said they won't buy HW animals as they don't have fur...gees what are they like. My only grumble about them is how they are uvmapped making them hard to get to get realistic results without fur. Anisotropy relies on the direction of the texture maps so have legs one way and the body another makes it impossible to spread the gloss in the right direction. The way many of them are mapped is old school. I did point this out on HW sometime ago and it fell on deaf years. I would also like Veins normal or better still Displacement maps to be supplied for the Horse and Big Cats. I know we can't always get what we want but this is the time we live in, realism is getting more popular. I do miss making images that aren't realistic but I make a living off it.

Fur is a different story as I have Garibaldi Hair and find the results excellent. My Kiwis turned out great with it, mind you the OBJ conversion nearly had my last PC die a horrible death. LOL This new rig will cope with that a lot better.

Thanks for the compliments about my images. I don't consider myself to be very artistic, not like you with your textures and images. Btw I have your textures for Mil Horse too. But I am happy doing what I do.

I haven't got any of my first images, they went with a HDD failure some years ago. Now I have two backups of everything.

I think it took me about a year to get to grips with Iray, but I made a choice to stick with DS only and haven't even installed Poser 8, Bryce or Carrara. I still have Vue Complete 2014 loaded but haven't opened it for a while. Just too busy really.

He was a good art teacher just not a very good person IMO. Yes for me detail is everything which is why I am better at realism rather than artistic type of images. I wish I could be me artistic but it is so hard for me to even think of ideas and the ideas I come up with far exceed my skill set. One thing that I had trouble with was imagination, I couldn't picture things in my mind. That is finally coming to me so there is hope.

You take care and I won't keep you any longer. Have fun.

Pete
