While your past will always be yours, and you can't change who you've been, you can always choose who you are now and in the future. It's very important to not confuse who you've been with who you are now. And sometimes we all need to learn how to let go of things about ourselves that are familiar or comfortable, but no longer true. The little folks in the second panel are a thirteen-year-old me and my conception of Cyaneus at the time. I've changed both physically and metaphysically, as you can see.Related content

Tell me, why do otherkin always identify themselves as "noble creatures": Foxes, Wolves, Dragons, elves, etc? Why aren't there any dung beetle otherkin or shark otherkin or water buffalo otherkin? Are they not "cool" enough?

They don't always, but many do. Humans tend to relate most easily to what we admire.

Why do so many people associate themselves with more commonly known animals? Because it's just that; they are the most popular. The most commonly known. People who are not part of the popularity don't speak out as often, they tend to stay amongst themselves; mostly because it is part of the nature that they adapt from.

There may indeed be a time when the dragon Cy no longer is you, but there may also be a time when the dragon Cy is more you than she is now.
Five years ago, I considered the entirety of my being beneath my physical form to be the dragon now known as Tathar Nuar. I wouldn't have even thought it possible for me to become even more of a dragon than I had been, yet here I am, in that exact state. My inner self has remained entirely a dragon over the past five years, but it still has grown over time. Being dragonkin is about what I am currently, not what I was years ago, or even a minute ago, and it appears you see it the same way. However, the natural changes that come with experience can go either way. It is too easy to forget that if you haven't seen it for yourself.

It ebbs and flows, doesn't it? Sometimes I will forget about it for days or even weeks, and then something will bring it back to the surface, more vivid than ever.

To be honest, that happens to me as well. It often causes me to doubt, but for now I am more in a 'let what happens happens' sort of mindset with it, though I am certainly stubborn and insecure about my image, which I should not really be so focused on. Such a mysterious thing at times : \.

Actually, I wouldn't say that. It can easily move closer to one side for the whole time. I think some people who realize they're not dragonkin are actually experiencing this effect. Their draconity just fades away with time, and eventually, there's nothing left.
It's not something I like to see.
