EDIT: i added a detailed tutorial about using and customizing this css! hope it's somehow understandable

this is my first completely self designed and self-coded journal-css and it's only tested in firefox

it's optimized for a 1280 screen-width, i have no idea how it looks on other screen-resolutions...

image-hosting included

with eight-ball glow-effect rollover buttons

i'm a css-beginner. if you find any mistakes in my code, please let me know, that i can try to fix and avoid it next time

click "download" to get a .rar file with the full code and further instructions about customizing and using this css !

Wow! This is absolutely stunning! The vibrant colours and graphics are gorgeous!!!

The only trouble I noticed on the live version was in the "hot picks" box on the bottom. You have the rows of 4 pics each, I LOVE the auto resizing when you scroll unfortunately the last row gets cut off and you can't see the whole pick when you do the scroll-over.

LOL - I'm sure that people would love this kind of set up even for their own journal spaces; I you want more practise you can feel free to design something for my journal any day ... it's seriously lacking. Where the "The Vector-Artists Club" box is could be a dedicated space for them to list the clubs they belong to, maybe have a separate one for stamps.

That seems like it would be a tremendous amount of work though e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)" />

First of all - I love it! It's very nice coded for a beginner. And the design is well executed. Sometimes when you put pink on a black background it all seems very disco, but you managed to skip that all together, and instead it looks classy with a twist of magic.

For the reader this design does a lot for you - everything is organised and easy to read. It's not filled with flowers or swirls, and the ones you have used compliments the design and adds to the organising.

For the writer though I see a complication, unfortunatly with big designs like this the code can be complicated. The downloaded code is in one document only and if someone wants to use this they will have to know css at a basic level. A walk-through or a tutorial would solve that though, so no harm done.

The only thing you might want to alter is the credit and the moodbox. It appears that only 3 out of the 6 text-boxes in the moodbox can be filled, otherwise the credit is displayed ontop of the text, which really ruins the great layout.

Overall I'm really impressed with this and hope to see more css-designs from you soon e.deviantart.com/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart" />

many thanks for that honest critique
the credit is part of the footer-background-image, it doesn't appear in the code. lol, that was one of the challenges that i wasn't able to solve in a satisfying way. but i think implementing it into the bg-graphic was an acceptable cheat.
you're right about the tutorial, i thought about that too before i read your critique and i already started to write some further instructions that i'll add
many thanks for taking the time and telling me your honest opinion!

Definitly acceptable cheat - you can just add to the tutorial, that people shouldn't use more than three of the moodbox' boxes

You are very welcome, hon

I could test it out for you (I test in 5 browsers for my CSS, so I have them all installed). Internet Explorer is usually the only one with big problems.

that would be very kind of you only if you find the time!

moonfreak In reply to cybaBABE [2009-04-19 04:38:34 +0000 UTC]

Google Chrome: Perfect
Safari 4 (for PC): Perfect
Opera 9.6: Perfect except for the rounded corners do not display
Internet Explorer 7: Credits and rounded corners do not display and the menu looks weird but still works

One more tip is that it would be better to upload .zip files rather than .rar files because some people don't want to download something to open them. (I had this problem very early on and switched to .zips)
