this is something i did during schoolwhile the others were making basic chess pieces i made this ^^

noted some comments where you said you had a 3D printer don't know how they work but if you could create a hollow version of the peaces you need to float and then attach a magnet on the inside you then place a polarising magnet in each square on the bored and so create the same floating appearance as the globe desk toys you can get (or bigger version the Magnet train) (don't quite know if it is that easy it was just after 5 minuets of research) but the possibility is thereΒ

I have thought about that but the problem is with the way the magnetic fields would interact with each other. The daleks wouldn't stay upright and try to flip over so the the magnetic poles Β connect.Β

I'm currently working on a (Private) prototype. so far i have a basic 'hover' effect going which i should be able to incorporate into the board. if i ever make a full one just curious as to what you guys think it would be worth. i'm assuming that i'd have permission to use the design if i did finish prototyping? (i'm talking a physical chess board like this, not a PC game)

To be honest I don't have a clue. The way I was planning to do this was by 3d printing the pieces and useing clesr plastic to make it look like it was hovering. And of course you have permission to use the design. Its not like I own the daleks. I would love to see your work when it is finished. And welcome to Deviantart.

Cool - Early days yet, still only on a V1.0 but i have a proof of concept. currently it has to be anchored to the board in some way or the thing tips - i nee some custom shaped magnets before i can make a true floating design - it's getting there though

There are two types, one that puts a layer of dust down and then precisely puts droplets of glue then another layer of dust, and so on till it is done and you can pull out your object from the left over dust. The other which is the one I am getting is this one. [link]

I recognize a few pieces. The rooks are Progenitors, most likely tuned to reverse polarity to destroy life instead of create it. The knights are Tennant-era Daleks. The bishops are cooler versions of the candy-corn New Daleks. From there, I see nothing but original design. The King is a New Dalek with an armored collar, the Queen is armed with six times the weaponry of any other, and the Pawns are flying pods with pincers.
I miss anything?

That is pretty much everything that I have on the board. But if you look closely at the Tennant style ones I have made a slight modification to the Spheres on the skirt and the slats around the collar have been given a new shape.

I got the idea for the colouring from the second Dalek civil war. It helps that the chess colours were the same as well. But the design for most of the Daleks were my own.
