Please download for full view.This was a wallpaper I had been working on for a while around this time last year I think.
I just really haven't had the desire to finish it since I got to this point, so I think I'll just post what I got since it isn't bad. 
Most of it was done in a typical pixely manner from me, but it should be fairly obvious the water was done using something other than my usual Paint like program. The basic backgrounds and structures were done in Kolourpaint, while the reflection and sky gradients were done in GIMP.
It was designed for my dual monitor setup with a 1440x900 monitor next to a 1024x768 monitor, but it should work alright for dual 1024x768's aswell, you can crop it to whatever size you'd like if you want to use it. Feel free to share the full wallpaper, just mention my name and link back to my main DA page.

Wow... it's hard to believe that the majority of this was made up of pixels. How on Earth did you do it? The composition is beautiful; it has such a serene and abstract feel to it, just like the original Zone. X3
It'd make a wonderful desktop wallpaper, yet my mind keeps thinking of little spriate characters running around in it. X3 So surreal, and yet so reachable.

Heh, well it does work pretty well depending on where the monitors divide. If you need to crop it or something like that, try to do so in a way that puts the space between monitors on an area with flat ground in the pic. It appears better that way.
