I'm watching it on dvd and (now that I've read some of the interviews etc with Doug Meddings) I am noticing all the tricks they used. I sure hope all those old set and prop skills aren't lost to cgi.

Yeah but I want an R2 series astrodroid, they are just so versatile and useful. they have welder, fire extinguisher, drinks dispenser, data tranfer facilities, a hologram recorder and projector, long range communicator and more all as standard built ins and the follow you around so you don't have to carry all this stuff yourself.
