No one was sure how it happened, but somehow, between typesetting and printing, two entire pages of text disappeared from the new BBB Employee Handbook. And missing two pages would have been a bad thing, no matter where they were missing from… after all, Baer, Brust & Bottoms had just been taken over by the massive conglomerate Erwebenkorp, which had already acquired BBB’s European rival TeutonTech, and everyone was aware that the new parent company was considering the possibility of letting the majority of BBB’s staff go and running what little remained as a shell front. That such a huge section of data could be missing from the company’s brand new (and expensive to print) manual spoke very poorly of BBB’s internal quality control, and if the new parent company found out, it could just be enough of an incident to set heads and jobs rolling across the company.

However, as it happened, the two pages that were missing chanced to be in the dress code section for non-executives… specifically, the women’s dress codes for employees working in the Public Relations, Customer Service and Secretarial sections. And one bright eyed senior executive was sharp witted enough to realize that the consequences of the printing error could be completely eliminated simply by insisting that the highly abbreviated version was, in fact, what BBB had intended all along.

Of course, since the existing printed version began with hair and jewelry restrictions and then omitted every single item of actual clothing except for the last category on the list, shoes, the women in the affected departments were going to have to make a bit of an adjustment for the good of the company as a whole…
