Description Poster I've done for the very first Duke Nukem game, which was a plat-former. I've tried to incorporate updated aspects of the game, Duke is very much the Duke design from Duke3D but I've given him his original purple vest. You can also see Dukes original nemesis Dr. Proton, long before he encountered Aliens.

The poster design is a homage to B-Movie painted posters and old school 80's game cartridges.

(UPDATE)
I know Duke didn't have sunglasses in Duke 1 but I also don't give a flying monkey because that has become a trademark of the character, he didn't have a cigar or a large sexual appetite, take steroids or swear.

i was never a big fan of his sexualized character in 3D, i wonder why 3d realms went with that when they made it. i still remember the first and 2nd games to be awesome though. i only played 3D so much because it had the build editor.

Doctor Who Cloned Me's Proton bears little resemblance to Proton.

Clearly based on DN game 1 episode 1. I recognise the enemies in there including Doctor Proton, but Duke's weapon is wrong. He had a nuclear pistol in all 3 eps of game 1. But here he's holding a shotgun.

Next time try to get all the facts right about what you are making a painting of, or else the painting won't make sense.

Better luck next time.

The character design clearly took a quantum-leap between 2 and 3D and I pretty much explained that underneath, saying it's the Duke3D character design in the Duke Nukum setting. Duke also had a head the same size as his body in the first platformer, I didn't feel the need to incorporate that.

Not many people seem to know about this game, it's usually DN3D. I respect it as his debut.

I know this is the Same with Solid Snake and Metal Gear Solid most don't realise that it is infact the 3rd game. This concerns me when it comes to talk of movie adaptions.

It probably isn't the best of the series, I found out about it by looking up the Duke Nukem series. I played and beat it, all 3 episodes, it was decent, not THAT great, but great enough that I'd love a portable version of it on the DS/PSP/iPhone. I know Duke Nukem 64 does reference it and Dr Proton and the events of DN2, but the other versions leave out the back story (The Xbox 360 version has it in the in-game manual, I think.)

It may also be because these are vastly different games. Duke Nukem used to be a rather child-friendly series with bright collectibles, playful sound effects and moderately easy gameplay. 2 games later, I'm getting my ass handed to me by pigs with shotguns, I'm blowing aliens up with rockets, and women are showing me their tits when I give them money. Now I like some of these changes, but the original is just under appreciated.

Incredibly the Duke Nukem franchise is now 20 years old; making it just as old as the Sonic Franchise The 1st Duke Nukem came out in 1991, Duke Nukem II in 1993 and Duke Nukem 3D followed in 1996. Duke Nukem 3D was also the first I played; I don't really know much about the other two other than their links to 3D

Duke Nukem 1 was an ancient IBM PC side-scroller game that had bright colorful graphics like an early educational game, no music, and very primitive sound effects. It had 3 episodes you had to get separately. The gameplay was you had a laser gun and you had to find the exit by collecting colorful keys and collect colorful objects to increase your score.

Duke Nukem 2 played much the same as Duke Nukem 1, only you could now have a rocket-launcher, a laser beam, and a flame-thrower. The music resembles that of the Sega Genesis, and the graphics were closer to what Duke Nukem is today, but it still had that 90's dude feel.

I consider both 3D and Forever to be better games than the first 2, but if you're a Duke fan, really check them out. Just don't expect golden epicness, but they're cute action games.

Cybopath In reply to Hollynova [2010-11-09 23:37:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. The villian is Dr. Proton from the original platformer. Morphix was originally supposed to be Dr. Proton but they changed it. In many ways though Manhatten Project is a re-make of Shrapnel City.
