What if the Blackest Night also had hit the MLP universe?Actually, I believe that RD would be a great candidate to the Green Lanterns Corps, but since AJ seemed more suitable to the GLs I had to find another Corps for Rainbow.
But why the Red Lanterns?
Rainbow Dash is not the most collected pony around the mane 6 and for many times we can see her loosing her temper. Nothing really big, but it's there.
So let's assume a certain event occur during the Blackest Night, like somepony close to her lost his/her life during the event. I believe that would be enough to take all the reason out Dash mind.
Of course I'm kinda cheating here, but the same happened to Guy Gardner, so I think it's possible. ^^'
I know that there is a lot of crossovers like this, but I don't give a damn. XD

Um, this actually couldn't work.
Rainbow Dash is the Element of Loyalty. No matter how bad things get, no matter how angry she gets, she would never, NEVER betray her friends. Nor would she do anything that would involve hurting them. The moment that ring slipped onto her hoof, she's mentally tell Atrocitus to kiss her flank, tear the stupid thing off, and fly away.
Sorry but I just don't see it.

There is noΒ Atrocitus here. The rings were sent to Equestria's reality on their own. Rainbow Dash IS the leader of the red lanterns and the first one. the ring choose her when she got furious at seeing a black lantern stab Scootaloo (to save her life, Scootaloo became the second red lantern, which went as well as you can imagine).

In the story, the rings are sent to Equestria, but a black ring follows them and infects General Hurricane.Β
Applejack and Twilight are chosen by the green and yellow rings.Β
Scootaloo is stabbed in the heart by a black lantern, and RD's anger at seeing this turns her into her universe's first red lantern, and to save her life, Scootaloo becomes the second.Β
This takes place before season 3, so it goes as well as you think when at school Diamond Tiara pokes the the bear with a stick. After being critically injured, and in danger of slipping into a coma even if she lives, Rarity makes her the first conscript of the Indigo Herd.Β
So the mane six are the LEADERS of the lantern cores of their universe.

Actually, Gilda was one of RD's first red lantern recruits. But yes, I imagine that is a VERY sore spot for the leader of the Red Lanterns of Equestria.Β

I never followed any of the Lantern stories, but I'm a bit curious. Were there ever any "good guy" Red Lanterns? Like... I heard at one point they were all given their sanity and decided to punish the guilty, but... what became of that? Are Red Lanterns always evil, or are they driven by rage, REGARDLESS of their alignment?

Well, in the Green Lantern:: The Animated Series, there is one, Razer.
Although he doesn't start as good guy. ^^'
You can also argue that Dex-Starr is also a good guy. At least a good kitty.
However, as far as I know the Red Lanterns are only "evil" because they are under the vengeful command of Atrocitus. So, even though most of them seems to be blinded by their rage, I don't believe that the Red Light of Rage is evil just by itself.
