Nick Mason, legendary drummer for Pink Floydfirst in a series of paintings
created in support of Memories In Music for the Music Heritage Project and Memories In Music in the Midlands Exhibit.
this is the final revision.

well, they won't display it in the gallery if I didn't remove them...just in case...but there's a solution to every design problem
Main thing is it reflects Nick Mason and be all Pink Floyd-y...so I'm happy with that

I find though, when correcting design mistakes, I either yearn for a ctrl-z button while I'm drawing on paper, or I wish I can just take my pencil and draw directly on the digital image instead of clicking on multiple buttons to fix something minor. x'D

Yes, that's Syd in the shadows next to the graffiti. He will always be there, symbolically. The lyrics I have to remove 
This will be in an Exhibition that Nick is part of, so I'm sure he'll see it. Annie (from Memories in Music ) interviewed Nick a few weeks ago...I keep bugging her to put the videos up on the site, but I don't think they're finished with them yet.

No, I won't have time before the Exhibit in Sept...so I'm going for diversity, to represent a few of the big influences from that area. Next up is Ozzy, Robert Plant, John Bonham and possibly Carl Palmer and Stevie Winwood.
I'm wrestling with all these new mediums (new to me, that is) acrylics, airbrushing, stenciling and collage techniques...so that's enough of an adventure at the moment. If I have time I'll do more of them, of course...and I may continue after the Exhibit. Pink Floyd was one of my fav bands.

Floyd: I think it was still 'Dark Side of the Moon', even though I love their later stuff. I had all my vinyls stolen years ago...miss them. I re-worked the painting, had to remove the (copyrighted) lyrics. I think I like it better now anyway.
Next I have to remove the Ferrari logo from the pig, in case Ferrari sues (so I'm told)

I love it Cynthia!! I think you really captured what a mystical adventure it must of been to drum for Pink Floyd. Love the concept of the spot lights and the fact that the drum set is there but opaque which gives the piece a dreamy feel and does not distract from the central focus. BRAVO!!

The colors and all the spotlights, etc. were to create that "Pink Floyd" type of atmosphere...back in the day when everyone smoked weed during their concerts.
I used the triangle/prism light/dark idea to create the focal point. So it's a nod to their 'Dark Side of the Moon' album, and the spotlight at the top of the triangle kind of echoes the moon shape, also the gong shape.
Nick is heavy into racing Ferraris these days, (and he has a Ferrari drum set - see it here: [link] as well as a collection of Ferrari cars) so I put the Ferrari logo on the pig. I didn't want to use any direct logos from the band (like their pig) because of possible legal issues.
The spotlights gave me the worst time. The worst. I still hate acrylics! But I couldn't have achieved the efx I did with anything else.
Drum sets suck to paint...so much happening there...
Airbrushing is also miserable...I need practice...but the only way to get the graffiti spray for the lyrics. And I used a metal speaker cover as a stencil from my JBL's to airbrush the subtle dot pattern you see here and there. Everything in this piece forced me to think so differently about materials and applications...so I'm really happy it turned out well for a first shot.
I knew this would be a challenge and an adventure!
Next up is Ozzy...and that's a horse of a very different color

Well, when I start researching my subjects, I do get fairly deep into it (thought-wise)...sorry if I blabbed on about it
Ozzy- I think of him as funny rather than dark. I think he's hilarious, actually. And probably a nice guy. I the the whole 'Prince of Darkness' crap is just that...a public image he's cultivated. Oh, I have Ozzy all planned out...it will be radically different, of course.
He's already giving me a bad time, tho- I was gluing something to his canvas with a hypodermic needle and stabbed myself with it by accident. How very Ozzy.
I've got to stop channeling these people

This is a really awesome piece of fan art. You somehow managed to make the only kind of fan art I truly appreciate. You took something (lyrics and bandmate images) and made them into something still your own creation, not just regurgitating fancy logos. Awesome!

I really intended to take this beyond the trad. fan art approach.
This series will be in tribute of Musicians from the Midlands (Birmingham, England) area, so it focuses on the musicians rather than just the bands.
I purposely didn't want to use any band logos, because the piece is about Nick as a musician, though his relationship with PF is huge. Syd was also such an influence I couldn't leave him out entirely...though everyone uses the "Shine on, crazy diamond" lyrics because those were about him...but I chose the other lyrics, because the piece is really about Nick, not Syd. If I were painting Syd, of course, that would be different
