Description Testing Genesis 2 Female with Victoria 6 and a new light setup I have to work with because my old methods using Deep Shadow Maps getting more and more annoying. I don't know how many of you people use the mapped shadows but I really liked them because it was a fast method. It's not the most realistic one but actually I preferred the speed over realism because I could play with extreme settings with lots of plants and other props. But now every mapped shadow setup causes distortions in psychedelic colors mostly on skin, hair and transparent surfaces. It has ruined every render in the last months and I've abandoned the scenes.
I will try to work with raytracing and Uberenvironment lights and see how far I get with the slower render times.

Uber environment just takes forever so does Raytracing, Daz4.6 has the worst Shadow mapping engine. It's softens every shadow and the more liughts you use the softer the shadows get until there isn't any. I complained about it but so far they haven't responded.

Well, I had a nice light setup which worked fine but then these distortions showed up around version 4.0 or so. It's getting worse with 4.6. Nothing works right. I can live with the softness but I can't live with random artefacts all over the render.

I don't have that problem I just have shadows too useless to call shadows. Like you I used the Shadow mapping to save time and if you soften them properly they look great moreover if you know when to use Raytracing you can use the Mapping more often, which I do. However if the Shadowmapping feature doesn't work properly, or worse yet not at all then why bother to include it in the software they may as well just leave it out and force us to use Raytracing exclusively, but then they'd get yelled at huh? So better to put in a defective program than to fix it properly. I love Daz's easy to use/understand interface but I may as well be using Lightwave for all the rendering speed I'll have now.

Very nice (and I just got that exo suit too!)

I sometimes use the deep ray, but not for the main scene, more as a secondary render that I'd selectively add as an additional layer to enhance shadows - a lot of the time the UberEnvironment gives me the lighting on characters i want, but I feel the characters need to cast a stronger shadow on the ground so they look part of the environment they're set in.

Alternatively, I'll sometimes do a second render without the environment props, just the character standing on a shadowcatcher (all UberEnvironment this time)... when added to the main render in post, floor shadow more pronounced, and more scope to dabble with post effects on background without spoiling the look of the character.
