Description Spotted Pardalote pair (Pardalotus punctatus), male in front, female in back.

Known as the Diamondbird in certain parts of Australia, the beautiful Pardalote is actually one of Australia's smallest birds, and is approximately the same size as mid-to-large-sized leaves (I took some liberties with the Eucalyptus leaves in the background- they're still generally the same shape, but much smaller than reality). This pint-sized little bird nests in tunnels in enbankments for the most part , with both male and female working together to rear the young.

Honestly, I'm not completely satisfied with this sketch in some terms of balance and composition (esp. the placement of the Eucalyptus flowers)- and I'll also have to edit the file to upload a better photo of the drawing

They're so cute and have such stubby tails.

Haha yeah My mom actually noticed that and pointed out to me that I'd 'forgotten to draw the tail', and I had to point out some photos of them to show that they were just like that Pretty cute little things.

Hehe yes many birds have short tails like this and makes them look cute and funny.

Wow, the feathers are so detailed! How long did it take to draw these pretty little fellows?

Thank you! It technically took somewhere between 3 hours, but I was honestly pretty slow and inefficient in finishing this one up, so in reality, it took somewhere like 6...

Very lovely drawing
I've seen these birds in the wild. They are very cute and have surprisingly loud calls for such tiny creatures

Wow, lucky! I would love to see these fellas in the wild. I'll be coming down to Australia in spring though, so maybe I might actually get the chance...

Ooh these turned out very nice!! I always like getting your drawings in my inbox (I still remember your whoodles on a semi-unrelated note. ). I love the details on these pardalotes. I love the feathers on the head and wings especially. The colouring is very well done. I believe the composition is fine in this, reminiscent of bird field guides. So this is nice!

Thanks! (yeah, I remember those too..might actually do more of them if the next series of DW brings more new and interesting aliens..) Thank you again! Yeah, I was kinda going for a bird field guide appearance- rather simple, with the birds placed in mostly realistic but rather 'solid' postures, to make them more recognizable.

It's nice how some of your art has poses like in older scientific art, and some of them are more dynamic, they're both quite interesting

AMAZING!!! I love the amount of colours you used throughout the drawing, The feather detail is amazing, the anatomy proportions are great! And the feet! I can't draw feet...

Thanks! ^^ Haha yeah, I've always found feet difficult as well- to be honest, I think I made the feet of these fellas a bit too small (they've got quite long-ish legs), but I suppose its not too bad..
