this weapon apparently lacks the charging handle, which is present on the other version, any reason for that?

Well, the charging handle is supposed to be on the left side of the gun, but then I realized that I need an ambidextrous charging handle. So, I had one put on my contest entry, although its not what I wanted on my original design. That's all.
