Interesting image, it's almost an abstract.
The black & White really defines the shape and brings out some harsh emotions... not sure how.
The focus on the middle and the soft focus around the edges come together to make a wonderful image.

What lens did you use?

sigma 150/2.8 macro, and possibly kenko extension tubes, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

sure, canon doesn't make 150mm lenses, but it's possible to make a shot like this with let's say 70-200mm and extension tubes

most of the time I have a hunch and normally I'm right, but this time I could tell from the overall image quality.

well, if you're trying to say that canon makes bad lenses, you are right. they also make good lenses, great lenses, and even some that are nearly perfect. the situation is almost the same with nikon, olympus, zeiss, sigma, tamron, pentax... or which ever brand you choose. but photography is not about equipment...

aye that is true, but it does help to have some good equipment like your 20D.
I've got a couple or canon lenses and a couple of tamron ones. each has a specific use
