Riza stood at the front of Roy's door. She didnt know why she had come. He already knew of her transfer as the Fuhrer's assistant earlier in the day but she felt that she needed to explain to him, to tell him (told him what though?).

Her knuckles stopped short of the door. She had half a mind to turn back and leave but as luck may be, he opened the door.

"Hawkeye! What are you doing here?" Roy said to her, surprised at his Lieutanent being in front of his apartment that time of night.

Recomposing herself from the initial shock of suddenly facing her superior instead of a wooden door, she said in a tone very unlike her own, "Can I come in Roy?". The sound of his first name felt foreign on her tongue. In the many years of knowing him, she hadnt called him that since before her enrollement into the military, when Roy was still an apprentice under her father, since the Isbal war, since that dreadful battle with Lust, when she had realized just how much she loved him when she thought she had lost him.

"Ofcourse" he replied as he moved aside, his hand on the small of her back as she passed by him.

She walked towards his couch and sat down. Roy was suddenly taken aback by her suddenly poignant features.

"Things have become a lot more complicated hasnt it Riza?" he said with a note of sarcasm in his voice as he settled himself next to her. She looked at him, her brows furrowed and eyes drilling into his onyx ones. "Dont look at me like that Riza, it makes me feel like I have not completed my paperwork". A failed attempt to lift the mood of the current atmosphere in the room.

"Sir...". Back to the formalities, humans are creatures of habit after all. "Roy..."

There was so much she wanted to say, so much she wanted to tell him and yet so infinately difficult to put things into words. She looked down and inhaled deeply. "I wish none of this had happened". She would have to settle with that.

"Neither do I". Roy took hold of her hand and held it in his. Her fingers tighted around his, desperation to withold the tears longing to flow. Damn it if Riza were to cry without a battle.

"You shouldnt hold things in, it can't be good for you" he said, moving closer to her.

"You are such a hypocrite sir". It was so difficult to throw away habits.

"Please call me Roy, there is no need for formalities now". Damn those fraternization laws. How he wanted so desperately to love her. Damn it all.

She finally looked at him and much to his suprise and even to more to her own, she placed a kiss on his lips. One simple action seemed to explain it all. Her desperation, her sadness, her anxiety, her passion, her love.

They had kissed before, when they were young and naive. Before the war, before she was assigned under him. There was nothing but lust back then but now, there was meaning in the way her lips carassed his. Tears no longer forced back, emotions now running freely.

After the hours of mere seconds, they part for much needed air.

"We will get through this" Roy said as he held her. The wall Riza so desperately clung onto crumbled as she buried herself in his warmth. "We will get through this" he repeated as he comforted her. They never needed much words between them. Simple words was all one needed to hear from the other.

She cried for herself, she cried for him and she cried for the Elrics, the children she and Roy will never have. Against her will, against the strict demeanor she was infamous for, she cried. She was still only human, she was still only a woman in love with the man she feared she will lose.
