Description

I really enjoyed this commission. It is not often that I get work for a singular animal, unsymmetrical and without a backdrop. It gives me opportunity to really play around with the decorative aspects of the animals patterning and colour, and what better patterns then the stripes on a tiger!

This work was for a lady who recently discovered she had, and tracked down her sister. She wanted something special to give on their first Christmas, and I am proud to have been her choice of artist.

The background is painted in liquid watercolour and white acrylic ink, and the tiger cut from black card. I decided to highlight some of the tiger’s patterns by backing parts with gold paper.

It’s made me want to do more patterned animals!

Beautiful, and you found an interesting way to frame it too.

I like the fact that the tiger's tail actually loops out of the frame. It's a twist on a classic look. And the decorative patches on the tiger go above and beyond "the stripes on a tiger". The subtle changes in the gold tone on the tiger also gave it a bit more dimension. Overall, very nicely done!

I hope the person who commissioned you loves this work as much as I do!

She did she loved it.
I'm starting to set my paper cuts so they brake the line of the mounts alot. It might be a phase haha, but i like the way it looks right now. Think it makes the image stand out more as a paper cut, sometimes when i just mount them flat to the paper they stop looking cut out and just look like a printed image from a distance.

Thanks you for you comment! they always mean alot. xx

Great to know!

I still like the idea of the cut extending outside of the "lines". It certainly gives the cut itself more presence. I've been having problems framing my own cuts, you see, but for you, I can see this trend to be something useful. It just looks good, you know? Mounting them flat has their advantages, too. But then again, it's easy to make things look printed or drawn instead of cut. But it's that just the whole idea?

You're more than welcome! I am always happy to give you useful comments!
