Description This here is a compilation of some photos of my first sculpture. C: His name is Odin, and he took me two weeks. It would have taken less time if I'd thought ahead a little, but I got like totally over excited and made one crappy armature. x_x Ended up using way more super-expensive Super Sculpey than I'd intended.

I made this for Bio class oddly enough. We were told we could pick any animal or biological process and just make a visual presentation to go along with an oral presentation. Things that get me to go all out: Money. Grades.

So yeah. I've discovered I have a love for all things ceramic. Which is just as well because I'll never make it as a digital artist. x'D

So. Any questions?

He's pretty hefty. The thing about super sculpey is that it's like $13 a pound, so I like to bulk out as much of the piece as I can with tinfoil. It also helps making him lighter and easier to deal with in general. c:

I had a nice thin blade attachment for my multi-tool and just did several hundred strokes with it. xD Took a couple of days it did.

I <3 him. how big is he?
if you ever wanted to part with him, I'd be happy to give him a good home (for money of course)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaffoDille In reply to cuddlykittenn [2010-09-17 14:20:43 +0000 UTC]

He's about half the size of an actual river otter, I'm afraid I don't know the exact dimensions.

I don't know that I could part with him though, seeing as he was my first sculpture. I'll be taken figurine commissions in the relatively near future though if you're interested in one o' them.

cuddlykittenn In reply to DaffoDille [2010-09-17 18:59:18 +0000 UTC]

that's cool. yeah I would be interested in a river otter like him laying down sleeping. i have a reference picture. when you do commissions, please write me as I will still be interested in it then also.

and I understand about it being your first piece and utterly adorable and unable to part with it great work!!

DaffoDille In reply to cuddlykittenn [2010-09-18 04:24:33 +0000 UTC]

Mmkay, that'd be manageable. It'd have to be a figurine though, and not one of these full-sized pieces. The cost of materials would be kind of red-jankulous. xD

....... *twitch*

YOU made this? O___0 Jesus Christ...

What kind of otter is he? Sea Otter? Marine Otter?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaffoDille In reply to AnneriaWings [2010-09-17 03:32:14 +0000 UTC]

Err. River otter actually. Cx Nice and generic, yupyup. He was a bit of a challenge. I had to go to the zoo and take pictures for anatomical reference and color matching.

I love otters, they're precious li'l beasties.
