Description Today one year ago, the first episode of Star Trek Discovery aired in the US. This series has divided the fandom like nothing else. The vitriol spat on both sides was something that was completely new to me and let to me disconnecting myself from "Trekkie-Fandom" (and my life is a lot more joyful and harmonious since I did that).

For myself it was the right thing at the right time. I embraced it, fell in love with part of it, and found compassionate people who I wouldn't want to miss in my life.
Foremost the incredible kind and wonderful Anthony Rapp (who Plays Lt. Stamets), who brought me back to reading and discussing SF and Fantasy books in a book club.

So here's to many more years, I love you folks!

Stimmt, Armageddon hatte solche Szenen. Oder eben... die hier: www.ussticonderoga.org/wp-cont…

This is such a great tribute! My favourite parts of the renderings must be the ship and Saru (wonderful lighting!). And of course the composition as a whole is nice <3

Thanks, Jemina! I guess that's the last one of those poster attempts. The work I put in there and the results I get are in no relation.

I get this feeling 100%. It's no different for an audience if it's a few weeks long group shot or a simple couple hours portrait < The gratification has to come from oneself, from knowing having done the work. It's up to oneself, how 'easy' one feels to let oneself go. It'd be so easy to just focus on creating simpler portraits... and there's nothing wrong with that! I'd love to do that too! But my mind just won't let me think it's 'challenging' enough. It's always messing things up, complicating things, like it's decided I was getting away 'easy' otherwise.

That being said: I can appreciate the effort that went into creating a collage like this.

That's just it. There is no more gratification. At the moment there's only frustration. I have no idea why 90% of the ppl on Twitter even follow me, cause they never react. I feel that I'm losing interest in my own work.

I'm sorry to hear that, but at the same understand it too. (Going through bit of a slump myself). It's good to rest a while, but I do hope - and believe -, that you'll find your inspiration still. In any form, in any place

Already one year has passed! Through all your beautiful art of them, it seems I've spent the last year with the series, even if I've still got to watch my first episode of Discovery O_o

Oh yes, the year went by much too fast. It's already nearly what-do-we-give-for-Christmas-time again …

I'm glad you found a good group of fans to hang around with.
Beautiful poster! The composition is stunning and it looks like a professional art piece for a book cover.

Wow, it's been that long?  Time really flies.  You made a great tribute to them, with the ship and all of the characters drawn in a way that reflects each of their personalities.

No prob.  Did you hear about the lawsuit CBS is facing from an indie game maker?

This is going on for a year now, isn't it? I heard this right in the beginning of DSC.

suburbantimewaster In reply to Dahkur [2018-10-13 16:45:38 +0000 UTC]

I only heard about it recently, so I wouldn't know.  Also, I don't know if you play Star Trek Online, but they have the option to create Discovery characters now.

Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunatly I don't have time to play STO. Once, when I'm retired, playing is an option again

This looks fantastic! Such a detailed ship, such fitting facial expressions and I agree with Yagellonica on loving the skin blending technique. Great placing of the characters, too. L'Rell's blue head gives great contrast and I like especially how Tyler seems to grow out of it.

This is like a professional ready poster. You should totally make this into a real life glossy poster! It's perfect.
And I love your skin blending technique.

Man on man, I keep saying I should watch this series but I never seem to have enough time...!

Dahkur In reply to Yagellonica [2018-10-13 17:37:59 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for your comment regarding the skin blending. I finally found the working combination of brush and … ahem … patience  (most of the time it's really just about being too lazy to work cleanly)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Yagellonica In reply to Dahkur [2018-10-14 04:15:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes, patience is usually the biggest factor in everything. I wouldn't finish even 1/3 of my art if I didn't exercise some patience... well, lots of it, in fact!
