Description
Ellen Ripley from Aliens during the scene where she encounters the Alien Queen (sans Newt). This was a return to colouring with a mouse in Photoshop to see if I had improved (in 2003). I used to start with the light colours and go darker, but with this one I started with the dark colours as you would with an oil painting. The only problem I had with this image is that it's difficult to do thin lines with my brushpen so the character did not stand out from the background. I countered this in the colouring by making the background lines a dark blue and the whole background almost monochromatic. This makes the brighter colours of the character jump forward. The mist on the floor was done with the Cloud filter (which I seemed to use in far too many pictures at the time).
