Chapter 5-5

   Safe in their new base, the Sixth Extinction watches the carnage inflicted by the four Kaiju. Everything between Antarctica and their base in Hong Kong has been completely destroyed. Millions lie dead. Fubuki and Rebecca watch with concern, but Jablonsky simply smokes his cigar, seemingly content.

Rebecca: Mr. Jablonsky, with all due respect, don’t you think this is a little too much?
Ivan: Do you have a problem, Ms. Welker?
Rebecca: Yes, what if Spencer is right?
Fubuki: That King Ghidorah is worse than Godzilla?
Rebecca: Ghidorah is going to destroy the entire Earth, and far worse than humanity ever will!
Ivan: That’s not my problem. Mankind is incapable of learning from its mistakes. God will deliver us from this sinful world.
Rebecca: Fubuki and I signed up to punish humanity, not destroy the world!
Ivan: Silence!
Rebecca: Have you gone nuts?! Call off this mission and…

   Without warning, Ivan strikes Rebecca across the face, knocking her to the ground, prompting Fubuki to rush to her side.

Ivan: Anyone else?

   The other terrorists are silent. Then, their radar goes off. Fubuki helps his girlfriend up before they go check the monitors and radar. Their eyes widen in surprise.

Fubuki: You’ve gotta be fucking kidding.

   The monitors reveal Godzilla and the GRF making their way to Hong Kong. The Halo and its forces surround the city to make a perimeter as Godzilla and King Ghidorah size up one another. Suddenly, they charge at each other at full speed, colliding violently. Godzilla grabs the left and right head as the middle head bites his neck. Ghidorah breaks free and wraps one of his necks around Godzilla, as well as biting him. Ghidorah then releases an electric surge through his bites, electrocuting Godzilla.

Aoki: I thought Godzilla could withstand electricity? The electric wall five years ago didn’t stop him.
Dr. Spencer: It must be more than he’s used to.
Kyne: Why didn’t we think of that before?
Alex: Commander, we found the Sixth Extinction base.
Kyne: Good. Blast those bastards to kingdom come.

   The Halo launches bombs at the base, which explodes violently. While they send soldiers to find their enemies, Godzilla shakes Ghidorah off with a nuclear shockwave, knocking the alien away several meters. Godzilla prepares an atomic ray, but the ground beneath him gives way, and he collapses into a trap dug by Baragon, who then lunges at him, biting his arm. Anguirus then pins Godzilla to the ground after clobbering him in the face with his club tail. Rodan lands on him and starts pecking at him. Ghidorah recovers and moves in for the kill, almost smiling.

Kimberly: Godzilla’s not going to make it.
Dakota: Where’s Salno?
Nicole: He’s right. She’s gone. Did she disappear?
Mikaela: Over there!

   They see a figure on a rooftop watching the battle. Kyne and Aoki get a closer look through binoculars.

Dr. Spencer: What the hell is she doing?!
Mikaela: Wait, I can sense it. She’s going to try to fight Ghidorah!

   Salno watches the fight, drenched in rain. She then closes her eyes, and a bright aura glows around her. Suddenly, Ghidorah stops and shrills in pain. Anguirus, Baragon, and Rodan also fall unconscious as a result. Salno opens her eyes to see Ghidorah turning to her direction, his necks and eyes glowing yellow and cackling with energy. Despite her imminent fate, Salno remains motionless, looking Ghidorah in the eye.

Salno: This planet can go to hell.

   Ghidorah then fires his Gravity Beams on Salno, completely vaporizing her. Her death terrifies the others, and Mikaela feels it as well. While the evil serpent is distracted, the other four Kaiju get up, with Godzilla staring the other three down. After a tense moment, Anguirus, Baragon, and Rodan all bow to Godzilla, and the four then turn to face Ghidorah.

Alex: Salno freed the other three from Ghidorah’s mind control! She gave her life to help us.
Mikaela: The tables have turned. Now’s your chance, Godzilla!

   The four Kaiju charge together and battle Ghidorah violently. The battle was long and fierce; claws raked scales, winds blew buildings apart, and lightning sparked the streets.   Rodan clawed at Ghidorah’s back and burned him, Anguirus and Baragon worked together to tear at the monster’s wings, and Godzilla continued to blast Ghidorah non-stop, until the great dragon finally collapsed. For a moment, there is calm and silence. Then, Ghidorah springs back to life and makes a crippled run away before unfolding his wings and making for the sky. The Kaiju roared in victory as the storm cleared with Ghidorah’s disappearance.

Kimberly: They did it.
Aoki: Based on my readings, Ghidorah is leaving Earth’s atmosphere. The world is saved.
Kyne: For now. That son of a bitch will probably come back, and we need to be ready.

   The Kaiju go in separate directions away from the ravaged Hong Kong. Before Godzilla returns to the sea, he turns to the Halo and looks at it briefly, with Mikaela looking back at him before the black Titan disappears beneath the waves.

   As the world tries to rebuild itself, the Sixth Extinction hides, plotting its next move. Alone, Fubuki comforts Rebecca.

Rebecca: That Jablonsky. He thinks he’s better than everyone else. He never appreciates anything we do!
Fubuki: I feel you, babe. I’m his best terrorist, and I love my job, but I’m second fiddle to him, and I’m getting sick of being pushed around.
Rebecca: What can we do? We rank lower than him. God, I just want to get rid of him!
Fubuki: Rebecca, you took the words right out of my mouth.
Rebecca: What are you getting at, Fubuki?
Fubuki: I want to give him a piece of my mind too and show him who’s boss.
Rebecca: Are you suggesting we assassinate him?
Fubuki: Not right now. We’ll plan it out carefully, or he’ll be onto us. As soon as the time comes, we smoke him, and we rule the organization the way we should.
Rebecca: Ooooh, I love the way your foul mind works, Fubuki.

   They exchange evil laughs before kissing and making out wildly. The last things we see are clothes flying in the air. Meanwhile, at the GRF, Mikaela is at a special meeting regarding the incident.

Dr. Spencer: Are you sure you still want to quit the Institute?
Mikaela: I never asked to be used as a weapon. I wish to still work at the GRF, but not go back to the Institute. I want to be normal.
Kyne: If you’re going to be part of the team, Spencer, then I need to assign you a bodyguard. You’re valuable to both the GRF and the Sixth Extinction, so your bodyguard will take good care of you. I just need to figure out who will do it.
Nicole: I volunteer, Commander Kyne. I’ve grown fond of Mikaela, and she almost died in front of me. The Spencers are like family to me; I don’t want to lose them like I lost my brother.
Mikaela: Nicole…
Kyne: Very well. Show her to her room, Ms. Petesch.

   Nicole escorts Mikaela to her stationary room. Mikaela sits on the bed, exhausted, and Nicole joins her.

Mikaela: What you said back there, Nicole. Did you mean that?
Nicole: I meant it. You’re like a sister to me. Ever since Duke died, I felt like I had no family. After I met you and your father, I grew close to you. I want to make sure we get through the tough times together.

   Mikaela sheds tears and hugs Nicole tightly, who hugs back and smiles.

Mikaela: Nicole, you’re the best friend I could ever ask for. If there’s anything I can do to repay you, I’ll do it.
Nicole: Don’t worry about it. And one more thing, Mikaela: don’t let anyone else decide who you are. Your powers make you special, and you decide how to use them, whether for good or evil.

   They exchange one more smile before Nicole leaves. Mikaela lies on the bed, sighing. Looking at the ceiling, she starts to wonder to herself why she has such good chemistry with Nicole. Does she really consider her a close friend, or even family? Or is it something that wasn’t there before?
