A few days after the attack by Vastatotherium, the survivors are suddenly plucked off one by one. The killer is a strange black skeleton-like creature. Tessa consults a mortician named Dodge, who tells her that the survivors of the new Kaiju attack were not meant to survive, and the God of Death, called Thanatos, is reclaiming them. Thanatos later takes on a gigantic form to battle Godzilla, who also happens to be on the list. Godzilla struggles until Mothra and Battra intervene. Battra is killed, but Mothra revives him, effectively defeating Thanatos as well, as Dodge stated that only new life could defeat Thanatos. Vastatotherium continues to wreak havoc, but two asteroids are making a beeline for Earth...
