The Mass Production Jaegers were an army of white Jaegers controlled by drones so that pilots wouldn't die in combat.Β This would allow there to be tons of Jaegers covering most of the world, and would be able to defend cities from the Kaiju, and render older Jaegers obsolete.Β However, they became infected with a Breacher virus, and they became possessed, then tried to reopen the Breach.

Yep. During the "metamorphosis", he actually disables Mecha King Ghidorah and Super Mechagodzilla, then starts bursting with wires as he dismembers each Mecha and melds their parts together

To be fair Shao herself wasn't aware of what Newt was putting in them. She just wanted her drones finished and largely left that to automation which Newt, under Precursor mind-control, used to his advantage.

I think this also helped show Shao that drones can never truly replace human ingenuity. Drones can help save lives, yes, but they're hackable. Case in point, what happened here.
