It's the 500D -it makes the lens as sharp at minimum as it is at infinity. The catch: The working distance with a zoom telephoto is fixed at 18" from the front of the lens and turning the focus ring will only vary the focus point by 1/2". You have to get close...

I wonder if shots like these will be easier for me to take with a 150mm sigma and a x1.4tc... Might help at least with the longer reach....

Not sure what your working distance will be at .4x -that's the mag that I was shooting at.
