Did you use the 70D for extra magnification?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

dalantech In reply to Satriver [2015-04-03 16:15:48 +0000 UTC]

No, it's just a physical crop via the smaller sensor than the 1D MK III. Cropping an image is not the same as magnifying it...

Handsome little critter.

I couldn't help noticing you got the Fongs out for this one.

I'm using a pair of Puffer Plus diffusers for the final stage of my diffusion.

I also went back to the Fong's regular puffers after trying Redstag's diffusers.
They're ideal for 1x but I kept frightening and bumping into things at higher magnification.

I think that Redstag's diffusion plastic is a little thick -great for 1x like you said, but was loosing too much light above 3x. My current setup is a Stofen with just a thin strip of plastic through the middle (to knock down the hot spot from the flash tube), a layer of 1/4 stop nylon GoBo material, and then the Puffer Plus. Works good through the entire range of the MP-E 65mm and I lose about 2 stops compared to a bare flash.

Well it all appears to be creating a very pleasant and unobtrusive footprint.
The plastic strip sounds very interesting and quite radical, I really am going to have to try that! Β

It's about 4 or 5 mm thick, just about the thickness of the flash tube.

Thanks John, the effects are quite dramatic and very subtle at the same time.
It's astonishing how much pain a pinprick of light in an eyeball can cause!
