Description Shot with a Canon 180mm L macro at about 1/3 life size. Camera mounted 580EX II with a 1/8" grid and a 1/4 CTO. Flash set to -1 2/3 FEC and high speed sync. 40D on manual mode F11, 1/640, and ISO 400 to under expose the ambient light by about 2 stops.

I like the deeper colours with this set-up.
Especially the eyes.

I like the warm light as well, but I'm not sure if it's too warm. I'll try a 1/8 CTO next time.

It may definitely benefit by reducing the CTO but it is still another amazing shot
Half the fun is in the fiddling

I like seeing this dragon in a less neon hue.

I have a hard time getting over the vibrant colour of these guys. I haven't found any to compare in my area of Canada.

Comparing this shot with one of your other violet darter shots... which one is closer to what the naked eye sees, in regards to vibrancy?

It depends on how the light is hitting them. I think some of my life size macro shots are pretty close to the way they look with the naked eye. They are very neon...
